To the people on /v/ who own both retro and modern hardware, how often do you actually sit down and play those older games?

I don't own any modern stuff beyond a PS4, but maybe every other weekend. More if I get into it, like I did for F-Zero X.

Not incredibly often, a few times a year. As time goes on, the number of times I've played the games go up and thus the desire for replay goes down. I play old games on my PC and Switch all the time, though.

I still play 360 games because the games I want to play are all available on 360. Halo Reach, Dead Space, Gears of War, Forza. I play these on brand new systems as well.

But my old pc games and atari stuff I rarely play. Game boy Color and PSP, it just felt wrong to chuck it in the bin after we were together on so many trips yknow?

That is my least played old system, to the point I keep it boxed up, but even then I hooked it up to replay Mass Effect 1 and 2 earlier this year.

In my experience emulators (and remastered versions) actually get played, whereas the classic consoles sit there and collect dust.

a decent amount, there are a lot of older games so there's always something to try if you don't feel like replaying any of your favorite.

I've been trying to get back to Metaphor Refantazio, but I genunely can't bring myself to care.

The actually retro consoles I only pop in once in a blue moon, but I oscillate between PS4, 360, PS2, the original Xbox and PS1 quite often. Wii sometimes too.

I'm inbetween. All my physical games collect dust but my hacked consoles or ones with flash carts get played constantly. Having access to more games is always superior.

This.
Personally, I always try to use original hardware, but actually owning the games is besides the point when most, if not all, retro consoles are as easily "hackable" (using EverDrives, ODEs or whatever else).

And with the retro gaming asking prices. you'd have to be retarded to buy into it (or have retardeds amounts of money to burn).

Mine has a broken vhs player. My grandparents basement is full of old televisions. I wish there was a way of getting a massive one to my place without needing a truck and 4 people to lift it.

I play my PS3 a lot (it’s almost 20 years old, it’s retro). Easy custom firmware which lets me use it for any PS1 or PS2 game I want (no it’s not a launch so it uses the PS2 Classics emulator, but like 90% of everything works on that with community fixes) on top of the PS3 games. I know, no games, but it’s legitimately a great system for how much can be run so easily on it. I own a lot of other stuff, GameCube, a real PS2, and more. Those I use a lot less since other systems are just more convenient.

Here lately, the answer is quite a bit. I have been playing through the Final Fantasy mainline titles, in order, on the systems they were released for, or via an emulator ran through the Wii which can output at 240p which is the best image you can get for these older games (every newer system outputs at a minimum that is higher than 240p and causes artifacts and other visual issues on a CRT.)

These games truly do look a lot better on a CRT. I tried playing through the FF “Pixel Remasters” recently and they just do not compare, not even with a shader.

Don’t sit too close to the CRT. The radiation that it outputs will get ya.

Only zoomers think this. Every office worker from the 90s until 2010 would be dead. You get more radiation from holding your cell phone in your hand than from putting your face up against a CRT. The lead glass stops the radiation from escaping. Your phone has nothing like that to prevent you being irradiated.

Rarely, and mostly because there's no modern equivalent, even on emulation sometimes. There's no parapara or dance central

>PS2 no longer powers on
>SNES batteries corroded
>NES games glitching out from bad pin connectors

I am recently moving towards emulation. I don't like managing my hardware and buying parts for it. So yeah, I play a lot of older games still, but I am going to change the device I'm going to be using to play said old games. I have a MiSTer if I want to play the games on my TV, but in other cases, it's going to be on PC with my emulators.

Ninja Gaiden huh? Make sure you hop on Insignia with that Xbox you've got. Halo 2 is always going hard.

I have a PS2 and a Wii set up in the attic. The wii is on a CRT. The PS2 was on the CRT as well but some cable issues with the HDL made me put it back on the flatscreen with component cables.
I still very much love my PS2, play on it whenever I can. The wii a little less so but lately I've been on a Trauma Center kick so it's seeing more use.
I also have a PS1 and Super Nintendo that have been shelved because I have the PS1 mini, SNES mini AND a chinkheld I can play those games on, so they're getting a well deserved rest. I still very much like OG hardware gaming though. If you emulate or upscale, have fun, no judgments from me.

I don't use my actual hardware but i ahve an emulation PC hooked up to a CRT which i use almost daily.

In my cupboard i have a NES, Master System, SNES, Saturn, PS1, Neogeo MVS cabinet, PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS3 etc. Almost all of them are modded in some way.
But there's no point using any of it when i can emulate them all in RGB on a CRT.

This weekend i've chosen 1997 as my year to revisit so i'll be playing Grandia, G-Darius and Silhouette Mirage. I'm looking forward to it :)
