Anons, thats every card game in existence. Which is why most just play on 1 format for the autists that cant handle or adapt to a growing game. Most real players know that you cant stay on just 1 format and 1 set of cards for such a long period of time. Card games get stale real quick without meta shake ups.

I played a little Shadowverse during release all these years ago and I remember getting invested in the story.
What happened? Is there somewhere with a summary or something? Is this new Shadowverse a sequel storywise?

and Shadowverse Worlds Beoyond is the sequel, which is an entirely new game from the ground up and much more modernized compared to the original.

Shadowverse peaked after the first expansion (or Steam launch).
After that it was Cygames throwing on a dart board on which classes would get gigabuffed, always creating a 2 deck meta because that's how its official tournaments play out.

It NEVER escaped 1-2 deck meta. It was always 2 classes dominating with over 80% play rate, with some of the time just 1 class dominating the meta.
You had to constantly switch classes, craft new cards, pull from older sets just to stay viable. If you played rogue or anti-meta you were punished hard by matchmaking.

my problem with the game wasn't just that there was always a top tier deck, but that they would randomly nerf shit that wasn't even tier 1 while letting the tier 0 faceroll deck go untouched for months. hearthstone did the same thing. they intentionally let powerful, easy to play decks dominate the meta so people will buy packs to build it, and then randomly nerf lower tier cards so they can pretend they're paying attention to balance.
