Oh hey, nice, I was waiting for a thread.
They broke Hard Drives again.
>Start exploring after setting up Coal
>Get my first Hard Drive
>Pop it
>You can find Wet Concrete before having the crafting machine (Refinery) to make it

I do like that you can dismantle crash sites now. It's a great way to get a lot of early resources.
Hell, it's good enough to almost make biofuel skippable (not quite, cause you need it to start the Coal plants).

For me the main perk of dismantling crash sites is so when I see them in the distance I know I haven't gotten to them yet.

Can you still back out of the menu to reprocess it for a new recipe or did they fix that?

>reprocess it for a new recipe
Of course. You get 1 reroll per Hard Drive.
You can also just not claim a Hard Drive before or after reroll and let both Recipes sit there unclaimed to permanently (until claimed) remove them from the pool of possible results.
It's a speedrunning trick early on to get Cast Screws more reliably (taking 2 out of the pool is better than 1 from claiming a recipe you want).
This one's a great example of letting it sit there for a while cause I won't need Fused Wire for a LONG time and Biocoal is literally useless.
I could reroll it for a shot at Cast Screws, but keeping it as-is benefits me more long-term.

Realistically you're hitting coal within 2 maybe 3 hours of a new save anyway so its not a big deal.

You can just enable a setting in the options to have all the alt recipes unlocked from the start....

You can make arbitrarily large megastructures and walk around in them.
Factorio exchanges your presence inside your buildings for greater challenge and depth.

I really, really enjoyed this game but I hit a fucking wall when I got to oil power. That shit was so daunting that I just sort of stopped playing. Up to that point it was quite fun and addicting though. Maybe I'll start a new game after I beat Planet Crafter.

I remember finishing picrel and thinking it was impressive. Oh, the naivety.

Yeah the game goes off the rails at some point and you need to start making absurdly large buildings, or spreading everything around the map which is even more of a headache.

Doin a new playthrough now and lifts and stuff will go a long way to making these babel abominations walkable.

That shithole is at least compact. I play co-op with a guy that will build sprawling messes that are impossible to audit and barely function, so the second we need overage to split off a conveyor belt or to tweak the ratios the entire area is unusable.

Man, you made Steam a lot more complex than it needed to be.
If you want Water to go up, all you need to do is feed the pipes into water silos stacked on top of each other, which have natural head lift just long enough to reach the next one up.
Or if you want more kinetic aesthetics, you can "cheat" headlift by pumping one pipe up somewhere concealed and then stringing the upper end of the pipe back down to where all your other pipes are, connect them, and it just werks.

Protip: use metal beams and frame out a 5x5 (or 4x4 if you have mk1 blueprints) sky scraper with only metal beams. Maybe even have 2 or 3 sky scrapers built next to each other so you can join them with walkways. Then use the blueprints to build rooms. You can fiddle with it to maximize the space. Then you just point n click to fill the rooms up, connect belts and go. Repeat till game is over.

Here's my oil setup purely for power. Converts all the polymer into fabric for more sink worth and generates 5,000 MW. You could probably make it even more efficient with the Heavy oil recipes, but it works well enough for now.

Same, I'm honestly annoyed they havent just rolled Refined Power mod straight into the base game.
Cheap but very crappy wind turbines for the early game and expensive but decent solar panels in the mid-game help smooth over a lot of boring "cut down half a forest and manually feed the leaves in".

At least they had the decency to add conveyor inputs to biomass burners in an update a few months ago, but that shit shouldve been added 5 years ago.
