I think the episodes are still all right but you're completely right, the pacing absolutely blows compared to the main game and it's not like that one doesn't have plenty of unskippable first person cutscenes too. At least there you get to play for hours at a time just going at it alone. I also hate that both episodes take all your guns away at the beginning, they're really not long enough to make collecting them again feel like meaningful, well thought-out progression. Pretty much why I replay the episodes only once every five years and the main game like five times a year.
