Ever since that day, Bomberman has been a lolcow in the video game industry and has never been taken seriously. R2 flopped, his games are being delisted, Bombergirl is more profitable and Konami refuses to make a collection or put his games on NSO, making people realize that this character was a failure all along.

Framchise-wise, Bomberman is the 1-on-1 Japanese equal to Rayman. Both had their biggest stride in the 90ies/mid-2000s, both had promising titles cancelled by the meddling of their respective righs-holding studios and the main series has been outstages by a spinoff wave (rabbids for Rayman, gachacoomer arcade heaven for Bomberman).

Bomberman as a franchise is just dated. That's why sales are bad. Simply for the fact that the gameplay is super antiquated. They don't innovate. And a little arcade game were you break tiles 1 bomb at a time, is not as compelling as the experiences being crafted today.

Bombergirl sells, because coomers, waifufags, and gamblers have zero taste. They'll consume anything with pretty girls in it.

Konami likes using Bomberman as a mascot character now that they own the IP. MGS Delta only has the Ape Escape stuff on Playstation, so Konami replaced it with Bomberman on Xbox.
