How has it aged and what's the best version?

Like fine wine buy it on steam. Playing on release console for around a year or two was peak since you could find random lobbies easily. Now just get a friend and it's the same experience. Unironically the best RE game don't let fags without friends tell you otherwise. Choose your character based on the weapon you wanna unlock. Minigun fot Chris Bow for Sheva.

It's just as shitty as when it was released. The AI companion is as retarded as ever, she blocks your aim and wastes your heals as you'd expect. The inventory fucking sucks dicks, there are no puzzles and the game is just awful, awful all the way through (still better than RE6 though simply because weapons feel like they have impact).

No. The racism in this game did NOT age well. This needs a remake with a black protaganist and the removal of the problematic content. This shouldn't be allowed to be sold to the new diverse consumef base especially after George Floyd's death.

Playing solo sucks because your companion just wastes ammo and overall cucks you. In RE0 you can kind of get around it by always using Billy because Rebecca's AI was programmed to be more passive than Billy so she will only shoot conservatively when not controlled. In this game, you just get cucked

Any version is good they're like all the same, the important thing is you play it with a friend. Otherwise, it's criminally underrated, it's level design is a bit worse the 4's, there's a couple rough patches near the end (5-2 is just brutal), and the Jill bossfight is dogshit, but otherwise it's just really solid action horror (although not really scary minus the odd tense moment). Also the art direction holds up quite well and it's probably the best mercs in the series.
