I'm loving this game. Why does /v/ hate it?
I'm doing a mobile/agile katana build.
/v/ just harps on the shitty writing, retarded AI, forgettable missions, empty world, tranny shit, etc but conveniently forgets that the swords were ok

First impressions matter, and the game was absolute shit when it launched. The only thing I liked about it was the bhop using the slow mo.
It's super underwhelming. Boot up skyrim and walk around. Every 10 feet there's an encounter with a wild animal, alchemical ingredient, ruin, POI, quest, mining spot, dungeon etc. There's none of that in cyberpunk. You can make the argument that well they spent so much time on the city. The city sucks, it's half finished. Entire sections of the city are just copy pasted warehouses.
>>712500691 (OP)>I'm doing a mobile/agile katana build.daring today are we
>>712502095oh also, skyrim isn't even that good and it still hasn't been topped by consoles yet.
>>712502095thx u for the review, Todd
>>712502174You either hold forward and encounter interesting things in an open world or you hold forward to find the next cutscene. Bethesda makes the former type games, or at least they used to.
MOST console games are just holding forward to watch the next cutscene. At least some devs like bioware tried to change it up. Now you have slop like BG3 unironically attempting to make bioware clones and failing miserably.
>>712501993>absolute shit at launchI wish retards would stop parroting this meme. CP2077 was only unplayable shit on last-gen consoles (PS4/Xbone), and it should've never been released in that state. (MS/Sony are as much to blame as CDPR.) The PC launch version of CP2077 had some bugs, yeah, but it was completely in line with the kind of bugs you'd see in a game of its size. It was completely playable and anyone pretending otherwise either didn't play it or is just trolling.
>>712504720The game was empty and depressing on PC too. I didn't finish it out if being frustrated with the lack of content and only got back to it with the DLC. It has redeemed itself now and it up there with RDR2 and Elden Ring with game of the decade

I cant afford the luxory of using my laptop at work so i got a switch 2. Is it worth rebuying for switch 2 if i want to play it at work, or just pass. Im interested in how well the mouse controls work on the joycons.
Big update coming out later this month
>>712507652I'm actually curious what's going to be in it this time. Maybe they'll actually add some good loot to the betray Reed ending path in PL instead of the (nothing) it has now.
Or maybe they'll add some more iconics and shit. LMGs could use one.
Or, better still, let me do fucking stealth kills with a monowhip.

>>712508319It should be, since it's a main integer patch (2.3, not 2.2.19 or something), and the other big ones (2.2, 2.1) added shitloads of customizations, NCART, boss fight reworks, and other stuff.
They'll almost certainly do a RedStream thing to talk about the biggest parts, probably next week (hopefully).
I'd love them to add more jobs for Dino and Padre, since downtown is such a cool area but there's fuckall to do in it.
Can I play the content of the upcoming new patch with my current save? I just started the game like a week ago.
>>712508738Absolutely. The only thing you risk is having new content that might be missed somehow or would've been better to get before you get too deep in the game.
Personally anon, I'd wait until until the patch and restart for it unless you're really deep into the game.
>>712508738if you're playing vanilla, sure. if you're playing with mods though, you're gonna wanna go into your Steam Settings and set it so games only update when launching, so you can keep playing your modded save till mods get updated to support the new patch.

They proved it works with the car gigs for El Capitan.
V should get txt messages from gangs and fixers - open calls for support/gigs whatever. Do enough of these gigs for a particular gang gets you special weapon skins or car paint or clothes or whatever. Make you feel like you're a bit more involved in the milieu of NC.
It'll give the game more legs to get us through to CP2077-2
>>712510381Oh and I want weapon crafting specs for all weapon skins. I hate just chancing it on Tier 5 gear which may or may not be some garish nightmare.
>>712510381Yea that would work so well and make so much sense being a merc. Give you a reason to go back to the fixes places. Give them all job boards that fill up after a day or two.
Steal a car, take out these gangers, steal this data off this computer from one of these dozens of interiors you forgot you can go into, some gigs locked behind certain path upgrades or classes. Like nomad only, only if you have level 15 intelligence, ect.
Fuuuuuuckkkkk thinking about this is so cool.
>>712509793No you see i wanted it to be something else and it wasn't and thats the games fault.
>>712510381Considering how thoroughly V butchers members of all of NCs gangs, I don't see that working. The NCPD scanner stuff works because of that, actually; the cops don't care who you are because you're killing gangers and assorted assholes. But what you're suggesting could be fine in a limited basis, like doing stuff for Panam's nomad clan, or some kind of 'off the books' Arasaka thing through Hanako's wing of the company.
>Captain's car delivery missionsI really hope they fix the fucking timers for that. I've done a few that were literally impossible because of the car I was driving and where the destination was.
>>712500691 (OP)Just the way it is bud. I love the game. I've played it for around 6,000 hours. Absolutely hate fans though. Especially those Becca faggots.
>>712510793My actual biggest request was a whole Gang War DLC.
Cop this.
>V can receive TXT Gigs from various gangs.>When V completes a TXT Gig, that gang's territory gets a little bigger, and their gangoons get a little stronger (better gear).>Conversely, whoever the Gig was targeting lose territory. The targeted gang start beefing up their corners so the next time they're targeted in a TXT Gig it's harder for V to complete.>This ebbs and flows depending on what TXT Gigs V chooses to take.>For example, V takes a bunch of 6th Street Gigs targeting the Tiger Claws. After 2-3 gigs the 6th Street have expanded their territory (shown by new graffiti, corners of 6th street gangoons, and car patrols, in the newly taken area), and the Tiger Claws are on higher alert (their corner men are packing SMGs and Sandi-Ninjas). V keeps doing gigs for 6th Street. After 5-6 gigs the Tiger Claws are absolutely bodied, and they're out hunting for V. V has a high chance of getting attacked by carloads of boosted up gangoons. A few more gigs later and the Tiger Claws just have their Base or Hideout left. The last TXT Gig is to fuck up the Tiger Claw base.>After X amount of in game time passes, the Tiger Claws will slowly branch back into their usual territory and the city will resettle.>V gets access to exclusive 6th Street Vendors, skins, weapons, vehicles etc. And 6th Street wont attack him on sight (unless he starts taking TXT gigs from another gang).
>>712511019>Considering how thoroughly V butchers members of all of NCs gangs, I don't see that working.Eh. They'll forgive and forget once V starts wiping the floor with enemy gangs. Alliances move swiftly in NC.
>I've done a few that were literally impossiblePlus the can't damage the car parameter. Urgh.

>>712512416>If I wasn't so sure CDPR is going to fuck up the next gameHaving a second city just seems retarded.
NC is so dense - just open it up. Don't give us another city of 95% inaccessible buildings.
>>712512660It's probably because they're changing engines to Unreal and the old stuff, made in the RED Engine, can't be ported, or the work to port it would be as much as just making stuff brand new.
>>712512613That's pretty much it, yeah.
I actually hadn't realised we'd got to script-level mods - I assumed RedEngine was too fucking weird for anyone to get their head around beyond simple assets.
Gigs were the best content
>>712512731I'm assuming it's all gonna be brand new.
One of the reasons for going to UE5 is so that a heap of asset work can be outsourced to 2nd world studios for pennies on the ruble. RedEngine was complex and bespoke, but that meant only certain people in CDPR could work it well enough to actually make a game.
>>712510381Exactly. Those car thief opportunities are great and I would love to see a few more like that. Pick up a signal to a data cache, leads to a small dungeon to retrieve it to sell to your fixer. stuff like that
>>712509793Isn't V, unlike Geralt, an original character? Why constrain him like that?
>>712510940If it advertises itself as a roleplaying game I expect a roleplaying game.
I like it. Way to easy to become overpowered and unkillable on the hardest difficulty twenty hours in.
>>712515129That's just their style of writing. You don't just want a roleplaying game, you want a roleplaying game with a blank slate player character.
>>712509793>>712515129>>712515610You can pretty much blame voice acting for that.
Those old Bioware games had such little VA that a team of writers could basically write hundreds of branching path dialogues. If you had to fully VA something like Planescape: Torment, you'd have to truncate it down and put it on rails.
Doubly worse for needing both male and female VA for V.
>>712500691 (OP)i dont like nihilism
>>712516028Stop reinforcing it then.
Just finished the DLC ending. Why can't dechromed V still be a legend?
Is there no old tech exo, non-nerve interfacing chrome in the the cyberpunk verse?
Becoming a 0 chrome natty legend would've been a bigger feat.
>>712516461Do you have any idea just how gimped a 'ganic would be compared to someone rocking even the most basic consumer chrome?
>>712516461Maybe in the 2010s or 2020s. In 2077 the chrome is so far ahead of the meat.
>>712509793This game has less roleplaying options than Witcher 2, a game that came out almost a decade before this, and has a predefined character in Geralt. CDPR didn't live up to their own standards.
>>712517225>CDPR didn't live up to their own standardsFWIW I think they did start out with a more "open and branching" narrative. It slowly got more focused and linear when Johnny became the sub-protagonist. And then I imagine they just plain ran out of time to develop the game they envisioned.
>>712504720on launch my jackie was stuck in a dodging animation while the boss phased through an elevator and instantly died, this game was broken on release
>>712517225Yes the game is really not a "narrative sandbox" with lots of vague open ended dialogue options. That is not the kind of game it is. It's an immersive action game with solid branching paths. It's better if you frame it as a gta clone with way better combat and heavy rpg elements. If you compare it to the likes of mafia and true crime/sleeping dogs it's god tier among open world vehicle based games, yet the vehicle aspect is only a small part.
>>712517774Doesn't matter because in it's current state it is an excellent game. Whether or not it a good idea to support the practice of releasing busted games and fixing them later is a different discussion.

It's fine with 2.0 expansion, and even now the city feels empty and the game unfinished. Like it could have 10x the gigs and cyberpsycho events that don't follow the same formula again and again.

It's roleplaying as much as a game like this can be role playing.

I dont want to meet Hanako at Embers yet because supposedly that's last major quest line. If it is, I have no clue how there are people managing to put hundreds of hours into this game.
its a game about driving and shooting where the driving and shooting feels really bad.
I bought it recently having fallen for all the "its good now" memes and its really not. I would honestly rather play asscreed than this.

>>712501993>Still seething over bugs in a game that got fixed 5 years agoI swear you fuckers are going to be on your deathbeds trying to convince the nurse changing your bedpan that Cyberpunk was never good because of issues at launch
>>712517540Agreed. Cyberpunk 2077's act 1 with branching decisions is exactly what CDPR marketed the game to be. They ran out of time and made the most of the remaining campaign linear before adding in some options for the endings.
>>712502095That's more a problem of you comparing it to Bethesda than the actual game tho. Their reputation might have gone down the pan but they're still the gold standard for first person RPGs: it's not a fault for cyberpunk to not meet that standard. Possibly a fault for cdpr to not realise people would make those comparisons and instead make the game 3rd person instead to bypass them, tho: witcher 3 is about the same level as cyberpunk re. world design and interactivity and doesn't get hit with these complaints.
>>712517891>the game is really not a "narrative sandbox" with lots of vague open ended dialogue options. That is exactly what this game is. There are hundreds of dialogue interrupts and options in this game that have no impact on the mission or the campaign.
I don't mind playing it as an immersive action games with some RPG elements. I have 200+hrs in the game, and I haven't even bought the DLC yet.
That being said, the game was marketed heavily as an RPG with focus on 'life paths', character creation and role playing. That's why the outrage against the game is valid.
It falls apart after the first 5 hours. After the host with Jackie, the game is essentially over.
Honestly I prefer it like that, for it to just be a 5 hour experience close to Blade Runner or whatever.
The idea that because itโs CDRed and a 80$ game and this has to have this nonsense open world is junk.
Whatโs stranger though is the majority of players donโt recognise the drop in writing after Johnny shows up.
I wish the game had at least two or three more branches in the story. I'd give up pretty much all the little five minute sidequests if I could try alternate story paths.
That the narrative shoehorns you down this track of trying to appeal to arasaka and then the pivotal mission is just "so do we just tell arasaka to fuck off and try something totally different then?". Why the fuck have I spent all this time trying to work things out alongside takamura just to immediately pivot and attack them? You could've just done that hours ago if that's what the choice was.
In a perfect world you'd have like 3 major choices of possible leads towards a cure and you'd have separate, or interconnected with options, sets of missions between them. Instead I have six weeks to like, five gajillion side activities, and one trail of breadcrumbs to follow down.
>>712500691 (OP)Cyberfornia is shit, that's all
That opening mission with bodies on ice in the bathtub for black market cybernetic removals, that is the darkest thing Iโve ever seen in a video game.
Shallow as a puddle RPG and repetitive combat with 2 enemy types. Your stats don't matter, either. I remember a mission to go into a warehouse, you could use force to break into an office or picklock a vent. Another room gave the "option" to picklock the door or break open a vent. It's not about your choices, but what stat the game randomly decides you needed. The most obvious example of this hijacking cars.
The story is such utter bullshit too.
>>712525340There's also loads of stat dialogue choices that are just "so you fight the good fight with your voice" tier and it immediately goes back to the regular conversation once you've revealed you have a big brain.
Particularly bad for stuff like
>unplug me>unplug him (10 int)And it does the exact same thing, there's no change.
>>712524842did you get to the part where they put BD recording software in people and then brutally kill/dismember and deep fry them so other people can relive it in a controlled environment for kicks?
>>712500691 (OP)Game was buggy on launch. Rather than dropping it and moving on, or at least complaining about that, /v/ naturally has to trip over themselves trying to prove the current build of the game is bad too. Once you've played it you'll get a lot of mileage laughing at them
>>712502095>skyrimlol fucking moron
>>712502095is a really bad ubisoft outpost ripoff in the end
>>712500691 (OP)city is still dead
even after all these updates and the DLCs
>>712529803yep and npcs are lifeless dolls and the verticality of the city is a fake meme which is why you can't even fly vehicles, i wanted a game with this concept trailer, not the garbage it ended up being

>>712527806I'm playing it right now. The current build is still buggy as fuck. I literally see bugs every single game session. Animation bugs. Physics bugs. AI bugs. NPCs detecting bodies through walls. Miscellaneous scenery objects exploding when you walk past them. NPCs driving invisible cars down the street. NPCs clipped into the ground. Cars clipped into the ground. Cars just literally sitting in the middle of the highway not moving. I hit a pedestrian while taking a corner too tight and instead of the pedestrian being run over his body stretched like rubber and flung my car into the air like a cartoon. I've even gotten a few full BSODs which is pretty insane these days. There's other things that feel like bugs, but I think are probably just badly made NPC AI rather than bugs. I could go on about the actual non-bug things that suck too.
>>712530309Jesus christ, anon. Shell out for current gen already
