Handhelds bigger than a PSP aren't actually portable.
Switch is just a console that you can pick up and play on your bed or something if you want.

in USA, I saw a guy pull a switch out of a backpack in the 10m before a community college class started
he was playing some pokemon game and blasting the audio
I could understand the appeal while traveling but locally I can wait till I get home

The power went out for a second due to a storm but the Switch 2 stayed on so I didn't lose any progress. I played Switch 1 docked 99% of the time and will do the same for the Switch 2 but I'm glad for handheld mode just for that.

I’m in America, so it’ll get stolen by black people. You have to conceal stuff like this when you buy it too so you don’t get mugged.
And we don’t have much public transit either since the place is so big. Redditors screech about walkable communities but it’s too big for all that. It’s really that simple.

I take it places all the time (well not the 2 yet I've only taken it one place so far). Usually on planes and other times I travel. My favorite though is to lay down on the couch and play handheld though.

I use mine on my morning commute and when I need a break at the office. Usually something short-form on the train, like picross. And then some RPG or maybe a fighting game match when I take a 15-20 minute break in brookfield center

I have a car
I prefer train or even bus whenever possible
>don't have to focus on driving myself
>trains don't have to deal with traffic, buses can use bus-only lanes on busy streets
>get to people watch a bit and appreciate the sheer kaleidoscopic pastiche of humanity that shares my city with me
I'm not opposed to driving but I need a good reason to want to drive vs taking transit

I'm glad to have gone to college during the 3DS era. The last handheld small and inconspicuous enough to have on you with no hassle, and I got a ton of Streetpass everyday.

I'm not really sure where I would play it outside besides the train but since launch I've only gone to places around my town/neighborhood since I work from home, so there hasn't been any need to take the train since I can just walk. But being a handheld is nice because I don't have to stay on my sofa to play, I can take it to other parts of my house and relax like if my kids want to watch TV or if I want to play a little before bed.

Nintendo fans are aware of ethnic minorities and socio-economic factors affecting them, so they keep their more noticeable handheld devices. Makes sense to me.

The true advantage of the Switch that no one talks about is how if your power goes out it can’t shut off the system. When the dock loses electricity it just enters handheld mode with no complications.
I don’t care about playing in handheld mode, but as someone that’s lost progress from power outages, I never have to worry about it with the Switch.

I’m going back to work in a remote area next week, and the Switch 2 is perfect. It’s easy to fit into my backpack and has more 3rd party games than my Switch 1 could handle.

I’ve sometimes taken my PS5 with me, but it’s honestly cumbersome, having to carry it and connect + disconnect it.

It's toilet portable. The last actual portable device was the 3DS. You can't fit a Switch or Steam Deck into your pocket nor can they last a reasonable enough time for a road trip or plane ride without a way to charge.
