>>712515216I've seen Birthright mentioned a few times on here as a place to start, and it always confuses me. I feel like there's a lot going on in Fates that makes it not newcomer friendly.
The main thing is that the weapons have stat modifiers and effects, and the game doesn't do a good job of tutorializing them. Effective speed and dodge chance aren't explained by the game, but you'll see them on the bronze/ steel/throwable weapons. There's also the thing about Hoshidan weapons giving a stat change while Nohrian weapons don't. You come across both types of weapons in both routes, and the game only tells you about the hoshidian stat changes on the iron weapons.
There's also attack/defense stance, but I think the tutorial does a fine job. It explains the basics but not the exact numbers.
Also Felicia and Jakob are promoted units, but are treated as unpromoted units in terms of exp. All the more confusing for a unit you get in chapter 2.
There's just so many quirks with Fates that take time getting used to, which I feel don't lend itself to being a newcomer game. Especially since Awakening exists as a similar game that is easier to grasp.
