>>712515509 (OP)DD1 was in a crowded year and it's genre was too similar to Dark Souls and Skyrim: two of the most culturally successful games made that have lived rent free in everyone's head for 15 years.
But even if it didn't have those competitors, it was a flawed game. It was just retarded in too many ways
>unconventional NPC dialogue system, so people don't even realise it has complex NPCs with personalities>deliberately obscurant (artificial difficulty mayhaps) mechanics where "you're supposed to fail" or it's "supposed to suck"eg. no fast travel combined with quickly respawning trash mobs along the main highways combined again with quests that ask you to backtrack.
>deliberately obscurant quest system and quest-dependencies where you can easily fail things simply because the game doesn't tell you stuffOh but don't worry, you can get it right on NG+ ;) Except I'm not going to fucking play a game for another 60 hours if it doesn't get the first 20 right.
So the game comes across as an autistic combat game, because that's mostly all that remains after a janky development process, and the more emotionally and psychologically satisfying storytelling and characters aren't presented properly.
DD2 was... too obviously shit for me to bother playing. I saw the writing on the wall about a month before release. I have no explanation to how they had a formula for what worked in DD1 (combat, vocations, items, worldbuilding, DA quality of life changes) and then managed to not repeat those successes, whilst also not fixing the things that clearly didn't work in DD1.
Fucking retarded devs is all I can say.
