it's a stupid statement, but the way it works is each weapon has a skill. maxing it's familiarity unlocks that skill permanently. This is probably to give you more reasons to grind and pad gameplay.

That's exactly what I mean. Real RPG mechanics. Gear that matters and actually requires reading. Set bonuses. Stats that actually do something and are more complex than 5 redundant damage stats. A genuine difference between builds in how they fight at all ranges. How you fight is also based on stats not just weapon type. Souls just has "don't fat roll ever", "hit thing with funny stick up close" and/or "cheese at range with magic"

I did really prefer playing as William to making a custom character. William had a real personality. It's why people say Nioh 1's story/writing was better when it was pretty generic schlock, just because you got way more invested in William.

Yea the stats on gear dont matter until like dream of the wise which is ng+4, even then just throwing on the highest raw damage and defense gear is still viable as long as your skilled enough. The gear system really should just be completely reworked or removed

pretty sure it will be the same system as wo long where armor and weapon attributes can be reforged. the real farming for those interested will come from set graces.
also, most likely you’ll have to find the armor with the skill you want and then dismantle it, before being able to pass its skill to another armor of your choice.
in the end its the same system as previous niohs with just a bit less rng.

Supposedly it's Tokugawa Iemitsu since he was known as Takechiyo during his childhood, though with some controversy that would probably arise from having him be the main character since he was apparently into young boys, I'm going to assume the protag will actually be the twin brother of Iemitsu just like Hide was the twin brother of Yoshitatsu.

Grinding for Graces and good weapons was the funnest part in Nioh. Just like Diablo 2, it's practically endless optimization. I don't get fromslop enjoyers' endless seething about this.
