Sometimes they're good. Or... Er... Remasters are usually good. Full on remakes where they changed everything sucks.

Fake ass gen alpha pretending to be an old grandpa. Even SMB games had a remake and the premise of "arcade perfect" ports was a selling point for consoles.

that's just so dumb, why are people here against better technology. is it because you can't afford it or is it just unreasonable nostalgia?

I did when I would play gameboy era Pokemon games because I expected so much more than whatever the fuck we got with the 3DS and Switch era. Monkey paw moment for me.

Well then they are not experiencing these old games.
Its something different, its an entirely different experience.

Remakes are a black hole for creativity, diluting and flanderizing the original to sell of name recognition, nothing more.

when the game is actually changed for the better it is amazing

>what's the point of remakes?
developers are creatively bankrupt and replaced everyone who actually did shit with black people, so they will turn to things from the past to keep the grift going for maybe another year. they are only delaying the inevitable.

In an ideal world, a remake is a way for a developer to update the graphics, add stuff they wanted to - but couldn't during initial development - and release it on modern systems. In reality the point of them is:
>remember [game]? buy it again to relive nostalgia
and/or
>you've been hearing about how good [game] is for the last 15 years so you'll probably buy this remake
The Master Chief Collection is one of the few good remakes I can think of. It's literally just a graphical update with no other meaningful changes and you can switch between the old and new graphics on the fly. For people too young to have gotten around to playing Halo it was a good way for them to just buy all the games in one on whatever modern console (or PC) they were on. I guess it might be more aptly called a "remaster" but people tend to use them interchangeably.

Graphics never mattered but the usability is the problem.
Old DOS games for example had to print a lot of it's text in the manual rather than ingame to save space.
I'd kill for Might & Magic 1-4 remakes that don't touch anything but make UI more usable, full mouse support and all information available ingame.

That weird anon, remakes don’t usually do that to people. You may have a mentally illness or be developmentally disabled.

Only games worth playing are console games. That’s all this site talks about, minus some sleazy anime porn games.

The remakes are just worse man. You are remembering the game correctly, go play the original.

No, all reamkes are better than their originals. If they lose little bits of “soul” (kek) here and there, better graphics control and a story rewrite thay doesn’t reek of 90’s tropes more than make up the difference.
