Anyone know of any good action or arcade games? Open to anything if you insist on it being fantastic from a gameplay perspective, but my computer can't handle the high end stuff, only got an integrated GPU and 8 gigs of VRAM.

Currently the demo that's hooked me most is Morsels. I don't normally go for "rogue-lites/likes", but it just looked so damn stellar from the presentation that I gave it a shot. I like the game's difficulty and it's heavy punishments and tradeoffs, it just feels right for the game's atmosphere and story. On each floor you can get this purple star item that you can trade to most events between floors. If you trade it in, you can get by. If not, you can get one of your characters taken away, or afflicted with a status ailment, etc. And if you get too much EXP ith one of your morsel characters it dies. Yes, really. It's harsh and yet for whatever reason it's not pissing me off. Also there's lots of fun little mini-games on and between floors, too, there's a lot going on.

Already sank nearly four hours into the demo alone and out of 50 something runs, I've gotten to the boss four or five times and gotten a perfect three times. The game doesn't give you much guidance, at least not the demo, so a lot of my experience has been trial and error. If you like that kind of experience, I can't recommend this game enough.

it's already hard enough to make that kind of game well in 2D, even despite having decades of previous examples to learn from. 3D is already more difficult to develop for a variety of reasons, but then add on top of that a genre that requires a lot of thought put forward. similar to the reasons why there are not a ton of games that do zelda dungeons, it is a lot easier to develop single room combat encounters as your means of progression. pseudoregalia hardly even counts, anyway. it is a tech demo at best. there is a game coming out that i played during the last next fest that might fit the bill though, but it has an atrocious art style. game is called metro gravity. game lets you control gravity (sort of). seems like it could be the 3d metroidvania you might be looking for.

well, at least you can admit it. many fans of this game won't do that and seem to claim it is one of the best things ever (actually because of goat ass, because that is the only thing that gets discussed).

the problem is that it hardly feels like a metroidvania. it feels like you should just start with the all the abilities and they should have just leaned harder into making it a really good platformer, because movement DOES feel great once you have all the abilities. but the levels/challenges are pretty barebones.

Is it just me or is the dash-jump in Aeromachina really clunky for no reason? Like you can't even cancel the dash into a jump, you have to go the full length of the dash and then with somewhat tight-feeling timing jump after that.
Also the gliding seemed somewhat off, diving to get speed seems to lower your altitude way too much, and pulling up to keep/gain altitude destroys your speed.

The movement feels very slippery since you have inertia when you stop but acceleration is very fast. Demo gives a pretty shit start for this Rogue Spear / SWAT-like.
Your dude goes into the first mission wearing shorts and armed with only a Glock.
You start with just enough money to buy a shitty shotgun with an 8m effective range and one of the cheaper gadgets.
Assuming you're thorough with lots of headshots on the first mission, you earn around $4000 to buy stuff, enough for an AR and whatever junk. But that hardly fucking matters because the Mall mission is stupid with enemy sniper placement on the second floor (and they have huge red "glare" that is probably supposed to alert you to them but it just makes it impossible to see them behind the red light) and suddenly the melee enemies can tank a few more headshots.

If you're unlucky enough to encounter a heavy armor dude, it takes 10+ headshots from any weapon to break the helmet off before you can actually kill him.
The extraction puts you into a wave defense phase for 60 seconds and all of the enemies instantly swarm your exact position, so the best course of action is to tuck yourself into a corner.
Enemy NPCs have x-ray vision and (after they are alerted to you) know exactly where you are at all times. They will shoot you the very frame they get line of sight to you.
The missions have many medkit stations all over the place, they know this shit isn't "tactical" and you are going to be having lots of battles of attrition.

Any good FPS games? I tried Oddcore and although I appreciate the weird aesthetic the gunplay is pretty bad, and I'm not sure I like the roguelike gameplay loop. Dwarf felt too slow for me but admittedly I didn't give him much of a chance. Robogirl has her hook and her super is ranged so there's some variance there. I imagine things can get more unique once you start unlocking new supers to equip at the start of a run, but I'm generally fine with their movesets. Feline Forensics and the Meowseum Mystery is a neat deduction game. I guess most resembling Duck Detective. The demo puzzle was more to introduce you to controls than to be any challenge so I have to wonder what the puzzle level will be in the final game. The only things you need to truly watch are the notes you need to catch and the countdown if the fish has an interrupt. Reeling has five distinct notes, one when you start reeling and then one for when you fill each segment. If you keep track of the beat you don't need to worry about looking at that. Tension has a blue/red tint on screen when you're too low/high. Interrupts are synced to the beat, you just need to either start or finish reeling in time with it.

Gales of Nayeli is, in almost every respect, a modern fire emblem romhack, except with a "how to draw anime" artstyle instead of pixel art splices. Skill emblem w/r/t how many unique passives and shit there are, somewhat varied map objectives (3rd map of the demo is "kill boss or defend 14 turns" where there's unique waves of reinforcements rushing you including a suicide bomber(!)), has weapon-usage draining combat arts, and shockingly voice acting, which I didn't expect. The avatar is completely mute, too. Why are they there? Loads of brown people.

There's Wildgate and Jump Ship. Two different flavors of the same kind of FPS where a crew of four players run a ship while you complete objectives and jump out to grab valuables or board enemy ships.
I thought Wildgate was pretty good, quick pace and made for ship-to-ship battles.
Jump Ship less so, more chores and less action, fighting bots that are a pain in the ass.

People were shitting on Moros Protocol in the previous threads for being a "souls-like roguelite FPS" set in a cramped corridor filled space station (for good reason) but I think I'm having fun. Maybe I'm just a gay retard though. It's like a worse Witchfire but techno themed. The gunplay seems very deliberate and slow, which will definitely turn off the "boomer shooter" crowd.

I liked it too. Felt like it has just the right pace for its scope. However, it does feel really easy, the generic enemies and first boss are all easily strafed, you never come close to running out of ammo, and melee is also really powerful. Only the second big boob lady boss offered any challenge whatsoever, only because she does some attacks that track you that need timed dodges, jumping or sprinting.

And I don't think the toothy meatwall doorways are ever worth the damage you take opening them. I just stopped bothering and ignored them after a couple runs.

This took me a bit to figure out. It didn't help that the first ones I popped didn't go anywhere and I felt like I was losing HP for nothing.

I'm still taking a lot of hits but you're right, most enemies are pretty toothless. I don't know if the right click dodge has i-frames but it seems to help a lot too. Do you know how to get those chests that are surrounded by forcefields?

No iframes on the dodge. It's better to just keep moving at a steady pace since you'll move out of the way of melee attacks by the time they reach active frames, and projectile enemies never lead their shots.
The only things you really need to dodge are the first boss's roll and the second boss's leap-kick.

The attacks landing to the beat is what really makes it satisfying as fuck.

Abysmal performance (for me, at least), server constantly shits itself, crafting/gathering is "click one button and stare at slowly filling up progress bar" and yet i just can't stop playing it for some reason, 10 hours in already.

I played about 1h of the Aeromachina demo, I suppose it's all right, but it just doesn't do anything interesting that sets it apart. It's just a 3rd person metroidvania, which admittedly isn't that common, but the systems are all fairly rigid and prescriptive. if you're just looking for content then it'll probably do you fine, but I'm always looking for interesting ideas.

I've been playing Mina the Hollower and it's not clicking for me
I really hate how slow the base movement speed is. Yeah I get it, the devs want you to be burrowing constantly if you wanna go fast but you can't do that when they place anti-burrow tiles or pitfalls and I hate having to walk so much on these screens where there's nothing going on aside from basic jumps

I also hate that you're locked to 4 directions when grounded, but can move diagonally when airborne but enemies can move diagonally when they're grounded or airborne because that makes fighting flying enemies really annoying even with the throwables

Also can someone give me some actual benefits to using the daggers or hammer? They just feel awful compared to the mace and especially the boomerang

I hate this trend of platforming games having combat mechanics in them, they're incredibly boring for how basic they are and they'll never be as in depth as actual action games that are designed all around them
Having a basic 4 step combo and the kick moves + shooting isn't interesting and there's no point in doing combat a majority of the time anyway unless you need to unlock a specific door or need ammo

Sounds like a skill issue. Throws are good (obviously better with gaps to toss people into) to set up launch combos along with whatever R2 you're using, and the deflect system encourages and rewards you for getting in there with good timing instead of camping vertically to an opponent in usual beat em ups.

Dagger DPS is solid, but the problem is lack of hitstun. Attacking faster doesn't help if enemies recover faster to compensate. It gimps the hit and run and rushdown playstyles you'd expect to benefit from faster attacks, making them easier with the whip.

I can't remember a single screen wide attack that hits the whole screen instantly. The last boss has projectiles that go full screen (and he spawns cover beforehand) but that's about it.

outside of being an obvious troll, you do realise older games had supers that also filled that role of invincibility? AND it did damage AND it pushed people away from you to make space. Reflects are a parry, not a dodge, rewarding good timing and positioning(!) to immediately counterattack and continue your offense.

There's a decoder item you find in that area that will give you a hot and cold sensor that lets you find "secret" messages, one of which is in front of those statues. It won't work until you find that decoder.

You mean this area? I see the item behind the glass, and I see it's the same area of which I can visit the lower level, but even with 3 jumps in my moveset I can't reach high enough from down there. From this room is a laser room with a hull upgrade I don't know how to reach, and another pit hallway with gold statues encased in glass and a bunch of enemies, where the door to the vertical dash upgrade is.
