The neck-snapping peanut monster in the garage that was ubiquitous to the aesthetic of early SCP had to be changed, because it was some chick’s actual work of art and she was DMCA’ing a bunch of SCP shit that was using the monster for fangames. Most of the website’s most iconic shit was “found footage” shit like this, so now everything has to be vetted for fair use.

They built a site that promoted new articles being individually compared to others.
Which meant that over time initial strong focus on the whole 'hidden world' aspect had to be lost as the world stopped being hidden by the thousand article discussing the world.

So instead articles need to live on their own which inevitably led to separate canons being created which further separated the articles.
Meaning when it came to making games you're left with either taking a bunch of simpler scps that work well together (most of which are early ones) and making something like containment breach or secret lab, or you hyper focus on the more complicated ones with their own timeline like 5000.
Or you take the third approach and take the structure of scp but fit it into your own setting.
