>>712561085>And if you don't have the faith, I can't imagine anyone else giving it a shot.Marathon has some powerful ideas at its core.
It's the foundation for Halo after all, and Halo can be praised (and blamed) for launching vidya into the mainstream market (Halo 3 being the first game to make more money than any Hollywood movie did in the year of its release). That's because of the ideas in Marathon.
nu-Marathon seems to be working from the same ideas, I thought the short film trailer was good, but it's like it needs to get over some kind of invisible hurdle keeping it from being something I'm genuinely excited about.
Some of that invisible hurdle is just straight up Sony being unappealing to me with their political stance during the past 8 years or so, and the apparent hostile takeover of Californians/shit treatment of some of their best Japanese devs.
Sony frankly isn't going to win me back after their bullshit.
Bungie itself has also been a shitshow politically since around 2014 at least, although I feel a little more forgiving of them. It seems like at least some of them are trying, and despite hating Destiny's gameplay I can't say it's a total failure with me. I do like things about it.
But what could possibly make Marathon cool enough to get over the invisible hurdle?
I have my own ideas, like sticking with the hero at the center of the story, telling his story, but because he's a toxic male power fantasy that's not going to happen.
So I don't think it will leap the invisible hurdle.
