If you're a retro autist who is playing on real hardware why the fuck would you be caring about 4k upscaling? Wouldn't you be playing on a piece of shit CRT TV that ways 400 pounds so you could get a more authentic experience? What's the point of playing The Legend of Zelda on a 4K OLED with scan line filters when the game was never meant to look like that

I own the non-pro version. It's fine, but I wasn't blown away. Especially with non-modded consoles, you are going to be dealing with shitty video output (the N64 is a good example). I also find the interface for the device itself to be shitty and unintuitive.

this is probably going to get a ton of shit, but i legit think an AI scaler trained to mimic CRT output would be better than this.

It's getting to the point that you really need to be able to do maintenance on that kind of shit, and that is beyond the scope of most people's knowledge and interest. Parts aren't necessarily easy to come by either. The days of the casual CRTanon are slowly coming to an end.

Because the 5X is good enough. Still never going higher than 1080p on any of my displays.

I think the eventual end-game will be in VR, whatever that looks like in the future. VR emulation with virtual CRTs is already pretty cool, though you do have the gotchas of software emulation at play. I don't think anyone can really say what tech is going to look like five years from now, things are moving very quickly with both AI and neural interfaces.

Kind of dumb that people would be enthusiastic enough to spend 750 dollars on an upscaler but not on learning how to maintain a CRT

Anon, there is all sorts of stuff that goes into that, and it's beyond the scope of a casual hobby for most people. It will also cost more than $750, especially if you account for time. Most people just want to be able to plug their PS2 into their TV and have the picture be decent and the latency unnoticeable.

Fine: People have preferences, that's plenty.
Further, most TVs have shit scaling or A/D conversion. Many new TVs don't have analog inputs. This box improves or solves all of the above.
Now that we attacked his argument, you're a faggot and you should locate your shift key someday.
