Last thread died, so new Morrowind thread.

How to generate grass if using MO2:

1. Download and install grass plugins.
2. Check "on" both mods (list on the left) and plugins (list on the right).
3. Close MO2 and open it again.
4. Run MGE XE opening it from MO2 (important).
4. Generate distant land. Use "use current load order" for choosing plugins.
5. Generate. It took about 20 minutes for me.
6. When it's done, in MO2 leave mods (left) "on" but check plugins (right) "off"
7. Your grass just works

My guess is that within next 2 years we'll get some of High Rock, Hammerfell, Padomaic Islands and more Cyrodiil.

Hammerfell is definitely not coming within two years, don't let the exterior progress fool you. High Rock's first release might come within two years if things go very smoothly, but I wouldn't bet on it. Temaris (first PI release) might be out within that time, but definitely not Cathnoquey (plan is for each of Cath, Yneslea, and Esroniet to be one release). Sutch won't be PT's focus until after Markarth is done, but it could optimistically happen within two years.

You'll want alteration, illusion, and one weapon and armor skill for sure. All the magic skills are good, the thief ones generally suck, except speechcraft which is really good.
Don't bother with a heavily vanilla playthrough.
Fatigue affects almost everything, including things you wouldn't expect. If you're low fatigue you barter worse, convince people worse, attack worse, cast worse, jump lower, literally almost every single action in the game is better if your green bar is full.

Redpill: Morrowind is pretty shitty as a game. The combat is the worst in the series (including Daggerfall), the visuals are ass, and it has almost none of the interactivity ES games are known for like NPC schedules. Stealth is also a complete joke and unusable for the most part. The world, whilst thematically interesting and creative, is very boring to play through, as it's just mines, caves and tombs copied over and over. Most NPCs do not have any sort of unique dialog, and all dialog, except greetings and a few main quest moments are entirely unvoiced.

The pros are... All this makes the game extremely easy to mod, hence Tamriel Rebuilt. It's a gigantic landmass mod that fills the game world out with content that (mostly) blends in perfectly with the original game.
If you treat the game as a walking simulator, throw in Ashfall for some survival/travel stuff and only really care about the lore, it can be mildly fun. But otherwise, it's just... Really underwhelming and not that fun to play.

t. boomer who didn't play Morrowind growing up and thus has no nostalgia for it.

I don't understand the lore of cliffracers exactly. It feels strange that a flying creature that spends its time in high altitude areas would bother chasing a random humanoid across the fields so aggressively. It feels like the Nerevar just has an aura that pisses off every wild animal in a 4 mile radius, it doesn't really make much sense at all. In all the RPGs I've played, I think Morrowind has the least immersive wildlife possible. It's really impressive.

I know the whole cliffracer thing is just a funny haha meme thing regarding Morrowind but the Nerevar has to have done something in his past life to piss a species off so much that the creature is WAITING for you to come back after recalling just to try kicking your ass. You have to genuinely sit here and wonder why a fucking bird creature stood by for a week, pissed off at you, waiting for you to return to Ald-ruhn so it peck at you. It never once broke aggro. It remained pissed off, unchanging, fervently, ready to strike while I was taking care of chores somewhere else.

Holy fucking shit, man.

I think you're always breaking the game a little each time you go free roaming instead of doing quests. It doesn't really matter. The game is far too big for a single playthrough. You'll always be locking yourself out of something. I think that TR and PT quests don't exclude each other out nearly as much as the vanilla questlines do.

Getting magic skills above 70 isn't really useful, since you'll be able to cast 99% of practical spells by that point, but you're gonna get beyond that point anyway on a mage run so you might as well make ad hoc spells to kill specific bosses.
TR in particular adds some annoying ones, so having a touch of death hitting for 2000+ is pretty handy.

That's also why they're redoing it. Kemel-Ze in the book had a big tomb but other than that there's no indication anything else about it is particularly special.
In-game they basically made it the largest Dwemer city by several orders of magnitude, which in retrospect is kind of odd. Even ESO just made it a chateau that Dumac gave Sotha Sil.

Mind you, reinventing Kemel-Ze to be a House on the Rock kind of thing would be cool, but either way.

Fire/frost/shock/poison/magicka/physical are all the types to my knowledge.
If you use a weapon it's not unusual for the enchantment to vastly outscale the weapon itself. So if you're fighting a bunch of daedra you may want to take an enchantment type that you resist to reduce reflect, or if you're fighting undead you don't want to use cold since they're immune or resistant to it.

The Emperor wants to make sure Corprus doesn't spread to Cyrodiil. Losing his paltry 'control' of Morrowind is an acceptable trade off. Particularly since the relationship with House Hlaalu is unlikely to change, so they'll still be able to get ebony shipments.
The fact that the Nerevarine is likely to slaughter or exile all imperials (citizens, not the race) currently in Morrowind is apparently an acceptable sacrifice. Or the writers just didn't think it through, since they banished the character for future canon despite it not making much sense either.
My bet's on the latter. They just didn't really seem to comprehend the magnitude of having the immortal Dunmer king of legend around. In fact, to my knowledge, the Emperor was under the impression that the Tribunal wouldn't even be going anywhere, making the whole thing even more stupid.

There's really only two solutions to that exploit. The first is to not allow ranges on CE enchants. The second is to make them reroll every second like they do for Restore Health.

The truth about the alchemy exploit is that it isn't even necessary to do half the time. With high enough alchemy and intelligence you can be making Fortify Attribute 30+ points or stupid long Restore potions without boosting. The only real reason to make fuckhueg +Int potions is to make Enchanting functional or make specific potions that are stronger than the shit you could buy, like Reflect or Spell Absorption. Reflect, Spell Absorption, and the Resists are all hilariously overcosted. The problem is their formula doesn't really account for the differences in time mattering so much. So something that only needs to last a couple of seconds like Charm or Calm is too cheap, but something that should last at least a minute like Resist is prohibitively expensive.
FFS a Daedric Tower Shield only gives 22.5% elemental resist (average/static) or a whopping 4.5% Reflect.

Here, the actual redpill: The emperor suspects something is going on, but he isn't actually sure.

It's heavily implied by the game's plot and structure that you are essentially a psyop, an Asset: The prophecy may be true or not, but you are in Morrowind as a puppet to essentially subvert the dunmer's dissident extremist religion into a weapon to weaken the Tribunal and strengthen the Empire's position. A blades agent becoming messiah would be the biggest achievement for the organization at a provincial level.

Now, are you an asset by the endgame? That's the real question here, and one only you can answer

Not exactly.

Your dialogue choices with Dagoth Ur, in which you can outright deny being the Nerevarine, those are not just for people that roleplay humble characters: During the whole MQ the prophecy is treated more like an instruction manual and none of its predictions come true in a straight way. Not only that, but most characters are pretty self-aware of intentionally acting in order to make the prophecy come true, rather than just being pawns of fate, and even the ashlanders seem to not think of you as actual Nerevar reborn until the trials are complete, and not because they couldn't recognize you, but because you weren't "yet".

If that's not enough, MK himself said in an interview that the prophecy is only true if the player wants it to be true. Morrowind is basically fantasy Dune.

MK didn't write as much as people give him credit for and was heavily tard wrangled.
The player can believe what he wants, but the prophecy comes true regardless of his beliefs. You unironically have a 'media literacy' failure here; and not in interpretation but in literal reading. The question isn't whether or not the prophecy is true--it is. The question is whether or not (You) made it so, or it was controlled by a more powerful entity, and if (You) are the Nerevar reborn or not. If (You) had failed, someone else would've fulfilled the prophecy. It was always going to become true.

Daedra aren't like Greek gods, things don't exist because of them. They have spheres that they gravitate towards and are compelled to carry them out. Just because one of Azura's spheres is prophecy doesn't mean she actually has prophetic visions. She just makes shit up and throws things against the wall until they stick

At least one creation myth says the deadric princes are embodiments of the aspects of Anu/Padomay, and thus they'd have complete and utter control over their realms
I know of nothing to contradict this, and certainly nothing to show that Azura is just bullshitting and actually has zero powers of prophecy

Ill be staring TR for the first time today. It seems i should join hlaalu in order to get the mowt content right? Are there any other factions that are joinable outside vanila? Are there any conflicting ones? And lastly. Is there a mod that allows me to join more houses? I always go redoran but hlaalu is really tempting right now

TR is adding playable Indoril next update. It does add the Ja Natta Syndicate, a new criminal faction in Narsis. Hlaalu and Telvanni has the most content, but.the Telvanni stuff is old and not as top quality as Hlaalu. There should still be some Redoran stuff too.

If you want entirely new factions, you'll need to go to Skyrim or Cyrodiil

Hlaalu has the most content (and it's not even done yet), but there's some mindlessly fun 'go forth and smoke that motherfucker' type quests for Redoran. Honestly the best faction to join in TR as of now, both for quality and quantity, is the Temple. Imperial organizations also have quite a lot of content, though it's more hit and miss. Avoid Telvanni, who have a grand total of one good questline and are a relic of shitty pre-renaissance design.

Whatever you do, go South, to Skyrim or Anvil. Don't bother with central East parts of the expansion. There's nothing to do there. I'm moving from SE to N, I will report more in the following threads. Just avoid East. I've been to a huge Temple City named Necrom and only found two quests there: finding a book for a woman from Bal Foyen and the other one was sobering up a drunk Indoril. I'm talking about Ald-Ruhn-sized city offering nothing but museums.

There's a small Temple questline there that rewards some pretty boss armor, and another misc one where you lay a ghost to rest, but, yeah, that's it. In the whole Telvanni-Indoril section of the map there is less to do than in one Hlaalu city. Even Akamora, which is supposed to be the Indoril capital, only has a couple of quests.

I'm there right now for the first time since I was a kid. I was 11 when this part of the map was released back in 2008. Basically we have a Telvanni town just outside where the locals joke about the ruins being a literal nothingburger while the Imperials keep poking around inside. I don't want to spoil anyone's experience, but the interior is like a Daggerfall dungeon with countless corridors and several huge atriums. The place has been looted a long time ago. The old TR team didn't know what to do obviously, they just kept expanding the overworld map with little thought on what to do with it. Maybe they planned on doing the map first and content second... It just didn't work.

That's what it means being creative. The man cares about his work. Morrowind was a labor of love before the corporations took over. There's something beautiful about losing control over your life's work, like what happened to Disco Elysium devs. In fact all the classic franchises were lost like that. Fable, Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem, Baldur's Gate, Fallout... The list goes on.

what's your specs? that seems literally impossible to me even with shadows tweaked off. without shadows and water turned on, and without postprocessing, at 5.00 view distance, i'd still average like 50 fps or so in OE. to be fair though my modlist adds a LOT of new places and more importantly a fuckton of NPCs. i've read that's where the cpu starts getting bothered.
i've settled for keeping my game at 10.0, shadows and water shaders on, postprocessing on, and i lock my frames to 30 then use lossless scaling to framegen them to 60. this seems to work the best for me.

on openmw or vanilla? shadows, regardless of what they're set to, makes your cpu eat shit on either. actor processing range can also be set to minimum for a huge boost and makes very little difference functionally. view distance can be demanding past 5.

if you're on vanilla, the per pixel lighting and shadow options are really demanding.

No. Vanilla is deeply flawed and there is too much content for a single playthrough.
You should play modded right away. Up to you how much to mod, but you would need to be severely autistic to want to replay the game modded after beating it unmodded. It's hundreds of hours long and most of it will be identical.

The main quest, faction quests that overlap, and side quests don't change. The exploration doesn't change. Even the combat doesn't change (still just run up and smack them for anyone with a weapon).
The only things that change are conflicting factions, which is a definite minority of content.

tribunal is a necessity to cap off a main quest playthrough for lore purposes, then you could really cap it off with the closure of the epilogue quests from TR. it is however, very short, the locations are tiny and repetitive, and it doesn't really have anything interesting go on until the last few quests.

bloodmoon is a bit better, a change of aesthetic for one, but it's completely irrelevant to any plot threads from the base game. it's self-contained. decent hook for the story, but a bit dry in presentation. it's certainly longer than tribunal and the sidequests are much better, like building your own colony, but all in all its main quest has the same issue where it's a snoozefest until the very, very end.

they were both rushed out and it shows.

No. They're very old school. They're meant to challenge the experienced players by placing them in dungeons with enemies with extreme stats. They're seriously difficult. they were made by the b-team at bethesda at the time. you know how around that era of games, some games would get expansions but from different developers, and you could tell the quality and overall tone just didn't quite match? it's like that, except bethesda is still responsible. i still personally think they're worth a go-around once ever but maybe that's just 'cause i suffered through them. you'd honestly probably be better off just reading what happens and moving on to something else.

I want to give Morrowind a fair try but am an adhd retard who's constantly bitching about wasting skills/picking the right ones

So at this stage does it really matter if I don't use skills often? Like if I go mysticism/alteration but don't use them that often, same with conjuration, etc

Like if I'm level 10 or something and near the midgame is that too low. I know there's no real scaling so it's not going to be a fuckery like Oblivion (never got into skyrim so can't compare) but ultimately I just need to know if it'll be normal to have like 5 skills at enar max and the rest around 50 or 60 at most

also is there any leveling mod for OpenMW that makes leveling not be the autistic scramble to max endurance and also if it can calculate health retroactively too please

Playing Oblivion Remastered.
Just found it odd that anonymous randomly pushing TR hard recently. Did they do a full launch or is it just random promotion trying to ride the remaster coattails?
Why waste money if you are piggybacking off of Oblivion?

Morrowind is ADHD af, bro. You're always jumping around, flying, shooting things, bashing them with huge weapons, exchanging thousands of coins...
Just steal my build. You can max out all attributes if you don't mind being very weak early on. You can almost never level up unintentionally like this. The secret is to never level up unless you will increase 5 points of 3 attributes, never increase skills from more than 3 attributes.

You can see the site traffic from the day it was created till now.

It is a simple line chart that anyone with a decent public education could read.
In its 21 year run the site has never had the traffic it had in Apr. Given the visit duration and the frequency of visits suggests bots were used to inflate site traffic.

It wasn't for money or a product release so the other obvious option is trying to piggyback off of the remaster.

Is there another possibility you can think of? Do you think a 21 year old project without a major milestone release just became randomly more popular than it has ever been?

For what it's worth their web guy has been complaining here and there about increased traffic from webcrawlers, so you might be accidentally correct about the bot thing. But the main cause of a spike in late april/early may would probably be, you know, the massive content release 1/3 the size of the entire original game that happened on may 1st (preceded by a couple weeks of teasers).

This had nothing to do with the oblivion remastered release. The dev cycle for Grasping Fortune was 4+ years, and they never pick release targets until they think they're just a couple of months out. They picked may 1st because of an in-joke with the senior devs; "may 1st" had for years been Mort's joke answer every time a random came in asking for a date for the next release.
