The last videogame character you played as has to resist the corruption of the One Ring, travel across Middle-Earth and cast it back into the fiery volcano where it was forged. Can they accomplish this?

Gohan probably couldn't resist the corruption over prolonged periods of time. However, he could easily fly to Mount Doom instantly considering he's massively faster than light. He could also just toss the ring into the sun. Sauron isn't getting it back from that.

Why is that? I know it has a corruptive and addictive pull that even a super saintly character like Galadriel can't resist, but clearly it is possible to resist it for a time otherwise Frodo and Sam wouldn't have been able to get it there. I don't see how a similar character to those two with a high power level couldn't just walk it over.

Yeah, Tolkien can say no one could do it, but he couldn't have imagined stupidly overpowered chinese cartoon characters who could speed blitz Mount Doom in literally less time than the ring would have to get a single corrupting word out.

Anyone with desires, especially the ambitious, is getting corrupted by the ring. It's basically just a power amplifier. Even those that want to do good for the world end up succumbing to its influence because the ring brainwashes them into believing they can quit it at any time and if they just used it wisely they could make the world a better place.

Even someone like Jesus could be corrupted by it because Jesus wants to save humanity. That's why Gandalf refuses to take the ring at all from Frodo.

I was playing archaon in total war warhammer
He can definitely take the ring to mt doom and not get corrupted, problem is he won't do it. His whole thing is taking powerful, corrupting artifacts for himself. I doubt LotR Sauron can do shit to him though, but Sauron is smart and sneaky like a jew and Archaon has been tricked a few times before, so maybe.

Yes, but Frodo could hold the ring for days(?) on end. Obviously not wear it that long, but possess it and be influenced by it. So clearly it has less effect on people without strong desires, and there's plenty of characters like that who could also just casually beat the Nazguls to make their way to mordor easily.

Sauron is very powerful. Not just physically, either. His corrupting influence is unparalleled. And he can very easily switch to brown-noser mode.

He'd get dropped immediately by any virtuous god, but any evil/dark/chaotic god is going to see him as a valuable servant and he'll stab them in the back. Sauron himself is the Middle Earth equivalent of a minor god, more akin to the Greek gods with the actual gods he served being akin to the titans.

He had it in his possession (in a chest somewhere in the house) for ten years and then wore it around his neck for like 7 months, although by the last 2 he was basically totally corrupted and only able to put off betraying the quest by the fact that all he was doing was putting one foot in front of the other and would almost certainly die of exhaustion or be killed by orcs before actually having to make the choice whether or not to throw the ring in the fire.

I have no doubts Archaon can beat Sauron and all of mordor by himself, at least 2nd and 3rd age Sauron if we are talking about Fantasy Archaon.
Problem is Archaon can be tricked, he got tricked a couple of times in his end times book and Sauron is super smart and a deceiver. I don't think he can corrupt Archaon since Chaos itself can't, but that doesn't mean Sauron can't manipulate him. Then again, the guys who manipulated Archaon and pissed him off didn't really end well.

Yes, it's possible to resist the ring's influence if you're unambitious, but the desirous are going to be corrupted eventually. Even the very mildly ambitious like Frodo get corrupted, just at a slower rate. The only one who could've walked it to Mount Doom without issue is Samwise Gamgee because he literally has no desires. He's perfectly content, and the ring tried to corrupt him to no avail.

That's what makes the question interesting. There are very few video game/anime/comic book/etc characters who have both the power to walk to Middle Earth and the lack of desires necessary to successfully destroy it. Power won't save you and a pure heart won't save you.

Entirely depends on if her inherited memories from her future self also come with the corruptive temptation, since her entire MO is to job and die hundreds of times so she has encyclopedic knowledge of how to proceed in the next time loop. If they don't then she clears easily despite only having slightly above human baseline strength, since effectively having clairvoyance is OP.

That's why I was questioning anon saying no one can do it, period. If Frodo who had basic desires (as far as I remember) could last at least 4 months without losing his grip too much to function, surely you could find someone with mundane desires to make the trek. Like the Protagonist of Fantasy Life also only wanted a quiet life similar to Sam and they have the power to fight giant beasts as large as anything Mordor has.

So Tolkien wrote in a letter that no being could resist the Ring once they were close enough in order to actually destroy it. It took Eru, God of Middle Earth, pushing Gollum into the lava in order to actually destroy it because Frodo and Sam got as far as they possibly could.

This doesn't mean that no being couldn't master the ring. They even say Gandalf and Galadriel could make it their own if they wanted to but they would never be able to destroy it.

In the books, Frodo doesn't wrestle Gollum over the edge, Gollum just trips, as if he were nudged by some kind of divine intervention. According to Tolkien, it had to be that way because no one could willingly throw the ring into the volcano without Iluvatar's help.

The closer you get to Mount Doom, the more corrupting the influence of The Ring. It is a form of spiritual pressure. The Ring is sentient to a degree and will corrupt your soul which is how it turns the bearers into Nazguls if they hold it for too long.

For that reason, I believe Olimar could actually do it so long as he was explicitly told to go toss The Ring into Mount Doom. He'd take a lot longer to get there than Frodo, that's for certain, but he'd be incredibly hard to see, and since his Pikmin are taking the brunt of The Ring's pressure he could just replace them when they got too corrupted.
