The "Nintendo" geriatric 40 somethings grew up on is a Nintendo filtered through a combination of localization changes, licensed media reflecting said localization changes and had to make up their own stuff out of a lack of material to draw from, select games not being released overseas out of concern for lacking appeal to western audiences,.....and Startropics
It's fine to have nostalgia over that era of Nintendo but it's stupid to think it was ever supposed to be the definitive portrayals

Although it is true that the current anime style is different from the late 80s-early 90s anime style where nintendo started thriving.

I have to say Detective club games' art of the latest installments is nowhere as interesting to me as the art for their old games. And i think that has to do with the state of manga and anime in general, where it has become more and more endogamic through the last 30 years.

It's simply that they like making those games period and as a result their franchises have a home.
Same deal with Kirby.
F-Zero, Wario Land, etc don't have reliable developers to keep them alive and as for franchises like DKC, Retro's staff has had a history of wanting to avoid franchise fatigue
