Aw man, I want pizza. Pizza at a mall is so nostalgic to me. I used to go to malls all the time back in the day and there was a corner store called Tony's Pizza, it had awesome big slices. Also another place called Antonio's, it was good but super greasy.

Jack in the box has gotten pretty bad too. I used to eat their chicken strips and within the last 5 years it started tasting like chemically flavored cardboard and the breading tastes like absolute shit with a weird aftertaste. My little brother works there for a summer job before school starts and said they mandated that nobody can clean the fryers anymore, so instead of dumping the oil like before, they put in some powdered cleaner and just keep reusing the same oil to cut spending.

It's a shame fast food gets by on Cheap and Quick in theory with quality being subpar but depending on preference and location still good. There's days though it's not even really cheap and due to the popularity and high turnover rate for employees meaning constant training, not all that quick. They're using ai and a bunch of mobile and screen stuff to aid Quick but it's not exactly reliable.

Anthropological observation. During school trips, after were done with trip, and we went to a mall food court, arrogant middle class kids who tried to appear richer and wealthier than they were always went to have lunch at Sbarro, while the rich kids went to Panda Express and usually shared their food with those who were too poor to afford it.

Our lives were the mall. It was our 3rd space. And it was all affordable and awesome.

$20 allowance:
>$5 movie ticket for Jurassic Park
>$3 popcorn + soda
>$5 new issue of EGM from Electronics Boutique
>$5 at the arcade, ~2-3 hours of playtime
>$2 slice of Sbarro

Ran out of cash? Listen to music at Tower Records. Browse Suncoast Video. Pretend to be interested in the knives and swords at the weird "mall ninja"/cigar shop and the dude lets you swing them. Stand on the balcony of the 2nd floor and look down cleavage (it was the 90s, literally everyone showed cleavage).

The problem with malls isn't the economy, people buy more crap nowadays than ever before, and the internet doesn't really substitute in-person browsing (For now, I think VR shopping could be cool) for things outside of certain utilities. The problem with malls is the same as with movie theaters, people do not want to drive anymore, and lots of people live in suburbs. Shopping malls that are placed next to where people actually live within walking distance, or less than 10 minutes away driving, or next to train station are still doing well.

People buy CHEAP shit from Walmart, Amazon, and temu, yes. People do not buy luxuries much anymore and that's the main stuff inside small stores of malls these days.

Also I disagree. There's plenty of malls around commercial and residential areas that are struggling. If anything it's the bigger mega malls where I live that thrive.

I think mall food was legit better before "food courts" existed. When they were just scattered around the mall randomly, they had to be decent to drag in foot traffic, since a big part of that was having an appealing looking - and smelling - product going.
Food courts just allow everyone to be lazy shits, since if you're going there, you're not in that part of the mall for any other reason than to eat something(or pick fights I guess)

I think you probably misunderstood. Using the same oil for deep frying is a health violation and would be illegal. Your brother is more likely referring to cleaning the flat tops or grills. Traditionally you would use oil and a "grill brick" but nowadays it's more common to use chemicals in a bottle.
