TEW1 is literally just poorman's RE4.

I wish but the first one is very janky but not in a fun way. Shooting isn't nearly as satisfying as 4 and there are way too many unskippable scripted walking sections.

The Evil Within feels like someone trying to make RE4 again but not understanding the slightest thing about what actually made RE4 good which is ironic

Fucking Oubreak had better feel to the shooting than RE4 which had pretty meh shooting and the whole difficulty curve was non-existent, making it the most casual RE to exist besides RE1 and OG 2.
No wonder casuals aka tourists worship RE4 so much, its the perfect slop for people who hate RE but want to feel like part of the fandom.

Eh, it's free on Gamepass. I tried it a few months back, couldn't get into it. I don't know where I dropped it, but I don't think I even got halfway through the first game. I gave it an honest try and it wasn't for me. I didn't care for the combat, though the story was at least somewhat interesting.

I can just watch the "movie" version on Youtube probably since I was more interested in the story than doing the combat and what not. RE feels like it makes exploring more fun and I like the atmosphere more in RE games. Evil Within was just "Hey, it's nighttime all the time and it'll never be daytime. If you're outside it's pitch black as fuck. There is no lampposts or outdoor lighting of any kind. If you're in a building, it's also dark as fuck."

The developers just seemed to be averse to putting any kind of light sources in the game, and I guess that was for a reason, but also because LE SPOOKY HORROR game. I think it's a bit more ominous to be in a small village in the middle of the day with no residents around and everything is abandoned. I can't speak for Evil Within 2 as I didn't play it since I didn't even finish the first game.

the steam version also has some stuff that can still break at 60fps even though the majority of the game is totally playable, it does change some aspects of the game like damage as well - the EGS/Xbox game pass version was updated to make the game easier and run better so i'm not sure how that translates with higher FPS

first one is visually and thematically amazing but it can go fuck itself gameplay wise. they took the survival aspect too far, to the point that it stops being fun. the game is sadistically against you at every turn. resourse starvation, tons of beginner's traps and gotcha moments, puzzle bosses, unkillable stalkers, a 3 second long sprint with base stamina (god help you if you deplete it), inaccurate guns, unskippable filler, you name it. first playthrough was miserable but I had some fun in ng+ and got every achievement eventually. also the story dlc is stealth/no weapons horseshit that's zero fun, wtf were they thinking with that crap?
second game is more user friendly but less memorable. not a bad game but the only RE it mogs is probably 6.
