โWeโre not going to make the same mistakes againโ, Sony says.
https://archive.is/xAwL4
> a recent โfireside chatโ with investors, Hulst admitted that Concord fell short of Sonyโs expectations, but added that the publisher had learned some valuable lessons in the wake of the hero shooterโs disastrous August 2024 launch and subsequent cancellation.
>Hulst said of Concord. โBut ultimately, that title entered into a hyper-competitive segment of the market. I think it was insufficiently differentiated to be able to resonate with players. And so we have reviewed our processes in light of this to deeply understand how and why that title failed to meet expectations, to ensure weโre not going to make the same mistakes again.โ
>โWeโve introduced much more rigorous processes for validating, for re-validating our creative, our commercial, our development assumptions and hypotheses, and we now do that on a much more ongoing basis,โ
>โThe constant testing, the constant re-validation of assumptions that we just talked about, to me is just so valuable to iterate and to constantly improve the title, so when launch comes, weโre going to give the title the optimal chance of success.โ

Is there really even big mainstream demand for extraction shooters? Expecting it to become the next big thing feels misguided to begin with to me.

literally nobody ever liked any of the dozen extraction shooters that came out in the last few years.

they'll abort maratroon before it releases? that could save snoy some money
They said that they put marathon through the paces to make sure it isn't Concord. So that means the beta was marathon after they "learn from Concord"?
>>712618853 (OP)>marathon isn't going to be another concordYeah, because Concord at least made it to launch. This shit is going to be swept under the rug any day now.
that just means they won't shut down the servers in a week
the game will likely be an abject failure, but the servers will stay up for like a year
>>712618853 (OP)People are losing their jobs. People with families. People with children. People upon whom others depend to put clothes on their back and food on their table. Now they have nothing. Many of them will have to take jobs out of desperation at reduced pay which will impact their quality of life. They will have to move across the country. They will have to sell their homes at a loss. They will have to pull their kids out of school in the middle of the year.
And yet here you are on the asshole of the internet gloating about it, conjoined by a chorus of equally pathetic shitheels who have also accomplished nothing in life. And why? Because these people made a game you did not like. As if that is such a fucking crime. But no, it's not enough that you did not support the game. You had to take it a step further. You had to trash it at every opportunity. You had to discourage others from supporting it.
There are so many talented individuals in this industry who grow disillusioned and quit because of people like you. The bitterness. The spitefulness. The hatred. There are supportive people out there but they are drowned out by the negativity. This website is a festering shitpile and people like you are mysteriously drawn to it.
You need to take a step back and reevaluate your life. Ask yourself why you take so much joy when others encounter misfortune. Does it make you feel better? Does your life finally have a purpose? Do you feel fulfilled? Do your parents tell you how proud they are of you?
I hate you. I fucking hate you. And I don't mean that in the "I think you are a fucking dickhead" sense but in the "I loathe the mere fact that you are allowed to exist another miserable day" sense. I hope you find yourself in the same situation someday. And I hope someone gloats about it on the internet. And others join in celebration. Just like you are doing right now. I will be there when it happens. And I will laugh my ass off at you.
Fuck you.
Just fuck you.

>>712618908>Concord fell short of Sonyโs expectationsHow does a game that literally made 0 dollars "fall short" the game was an unmitigated disaster.
"Fall short" implies that they didn't quite land where they wanted it, Concord was so bad that the few copies they sold were automatically reimbursed, making the entire project nothing but a waste of money.
I love that Concord's failure keeps haunting Sony and dooming every game that gets associated with it.

Also, the awful character design also had gameplay ratifications, because character designs are not really telegraphing what characters do and how they actually play like, adding to the unintuitiveness.

>>712619913I've been hearing this for years.
Games aren't like the movie industry, where in order to change the characters, you have to completely recast them. One skilled artist can redo an ugly female character design, replace a few obnoxious lines of dialog from her, and write her a new subplot within a few months. If you want to do a professional job on the design and animations, it takes more time, but if you have years and a team? The reason why the ship is taking so long to course correct is because the crew and their sponsors don't WANT to course correct. They're trying to hold out for the next fluke that will let them keep going for another few years and they hope that we'll just eventually give up and accept that this is gaming now.
Short of taking down BlackRock and Vanguard (not impossible if there's a worldwide movement from the little guy; there's a reason why the establishment tries so hard to control information), I honestly don't know if anything can change the tainted 00s mainstream establishment. They could be like western comics, where even when they're so dead that nobody can make a decent living working there, they're still trying to convince themselves that they're the big players and they're on the right side of history.
>one of the core ideas is that your inventory will refresh each month

If a films creator canโt remove themselves from the glory and ideals of their country, itโs propaganda, it turns into that, and without self evaluation it becomes pointless.

>>712618853 (OP)Concord's performance was so remarkably bad, it was clearly a fundamentally flawed product with numerous problems, it wasn't a matter of simple mistakes that could have been fixed well into development. It attracted no playerbase, and the handful of people who either tried the beta or purchased it at launch quickly disappeared within a day. why trying to cater to specific niches of whiny gaymers, if you can instead try to convince them that they actually want and like X and Y, after all it worked for so many things before, why not go further?

see, female and male bodies are different, it's a pain in the ass because it means you have to spend twice as much money on assets, on animations, on marketing, why not just have one body type (or two body types that are barely different from one another) so that they can share everything?

Concord was a once in a lifetime experience. On every single level of how a game is made, down to the very essence of making a likable character, it failed on a scale that will be studied about for decades. A monument to everything that is wrong with modern game industry business.
Created by talented people who didn't know their audience, didn't know what kind of game it would be, marketed by people who had no clue how to monetize it, talked about by Sony executives who didn't know how to salvage it, pushed far past the point where every other investor would have bailed, and desperately tried to recoup losses in some hope that they'd break even
Marathon is many things, and "a Concord-like" is far, far away from it, right next to "fun" and "living past 2 years"

Now, you also have unironic zealots who think ACS did well, ubi is not woke and the stock will moon anytime soon
>>712647198Last I heard, games like fifa make an ass ton of money with micro transactions and lost boxes or something.
It wouldn't be surprising they try to go after it if it's true.
>>712619931The funny part is all these fat ugly creatures use avatars that look nothing like them on social media.
>>712618908>" much more rigorous processes for validating, for re-validating our creative, our commercial, our development assumptions and hypotheses">โThe constant testing, the constant re-validation of assumptions"Ah, truly the crucible in which all great games have been forged.
>>712648024This is not the case of concord.
Concord was clearly "let's make some big online money maker fps thing, let's buy this new studio by the bungie people, they must know their shit"
"oh they are proposing doing some marvel new narrative universe, our movie people got SO HARD about this, let's pump more funds".
They are clueless.
>>712644064Salmon Run is horde mode, VERY different from an extraction shooter.
>>712618908>โWeโve introduced much more rigorous processes for validating, for re-validating our creative, our commercial, our development assumptions and hypotheses, and we now do that on a much more ongoing basis,โThis is fine actually, the problem is when the core foundation is the problem OR your studio making it just sucks
>>712650883this image is half the people i work with anymore, i truly would not care if i couldn't leave until they fucking get here
>>712622541>Herman Hulst does not fail>Marathon bombs>Herman Hulst later found dead, jobbed to duck tape and some glue
>>712623691He did, heโs just CEO of PlayStation studios instead of co CEO of the entirety of PlayStation, which he was for like six months with the Japanese guy until he got demoted
>>712618853 (OP)>They say as they make the same mistakes again.
>>712618908>Hulst admitted that Concord fell short of Sonyโs expectations400 MILLION DOLLARS
>>712645813It's the new meta for investing. Stock market returns are not good enough and many companies are choosing not to sell shares at all so now it's all about private investment. And private investment has always been 9 failures to 1 success, but the 1 success nets you so much money it dwarfs your losses. Sony are still in the failure stage, they haven't found their 1 success that makes all the losses worth it.
>>712652828Ah yes, the MJ special.
>>712649586That's something Yamauchi would say but 100x more spiteful.
>>712639139>c-clearly notyou can cope as much as you want, there was just as much push back on the first korean p2w games the first few years, and yet here we are
gamers are the most weak willed cum guzzling audience existing right now, they will take it up the ass because they will follow the last cool trend that their youtuber enjoys or that their friends convince them to try, they will bend over and spread their ass cheeks and given time, they will even defend the 'new normal'
>>712618853 (OP)Maybe if every aaa game stopped costing like a billion dollars and eight years to make maybe it wouldnโt be a big deal if it didnโt do well
>>712618853 (OP)Didn't they cancel a bunch of live service games last year?
Why did they make so many shit games, are they retarded.
>>712622063It only took like 90% of this generation
>>712654483The greatest generation in the early manchild entertainment industry was funny, Alec Guiness and his absolute spite for Star Wars fans is my another favorite.
>>712619271what do you even mean you worthless faggot
I have done nothing lmao
bad game is bad and nobody wanted to play it
simple as that
>>712620506Yeah sure, that's why /vg/ and /vmg/ are packed to the gills with gacha game fans.
>>712618908TL;DR please oh God oh fuck.
Please do NOT dump all of our stock and ruin our company. We are NOT retard
sooo...they're fucked.
>>712618853 (OP)>>712618908>Concord failed to a hyper-competitive market but Marvel Rivals did fine, what's the explanation behind that?>..........
>>712621863>buy thing>get this other thing for no extra moneyDon't they teach you anything in school these days?
>>712622435This may surprise you, but the statements you read in an echo chamber like /v/ do not represent what the entire gaming audience believes.
>>712619271I'm just not reading this fagcope.
Stop being antiwhite.
Real simple.
Make games that push White Wellbeing.
If you want to be antiwhite you can be jobless, homeless and divorced.
Not my problem.
>>712620531You might actually be right on the money, the only reason Bethesda even called that game Prey was because they were in danger of losing the rights to the IP name because they haven't used it for over a decade, the last time a Marathon anything happened were the XBLA ports in 2009 which coincidentally were also over a decade ago.
>>712623048>"a diverse and resilient" portfolio of live service gamesBut all of them look like the same type of generic online sloppa. They certainly share the exact same nickel and dime tactics.
>>712618853 (OP)Tldr, is it woke?
>>712619380what is the actual cause?
>>7126265611) System Shock's Remake was kickstarted so Nightdive wasn't expecting to sink their own money into it
2) Being a kickstarter game meant it obviously fucked up a whole lot during development, some dev drama and money troubles happened, to the point that they had to scrap the original builds
3) Nightdive had actual integrity so instead of just cancelling and telling people to go fuck themselves they went back and finished the Remake with good quality and little to no cutbacks on the original kickstarter outline
Playstation might be worth several billions of dollars but you will never see them accomplish something like this in your lifetime because they're too gay and shitty to commit to such a thing
>>712627506>Bungie probably still has value the same way zombie studios like Bioware or Blizzard have valueThe difference is that when EA bought Bioware and Activision bought Blizzard, they fully owned their asses. When Sony bought Bungie, they didn't even have the power to keep Bungie from firing everybody despite giving them additional funds specifically for talent retainment. Hell, Bungie isn't even obligated to turn out a Playstation-exclusive game, they have enough autonomy that they could shitcan Marathon and make an Xbox/Nintendo game on Sony's dollar.
>>712618853 (OP)Stop naming your shooter franchises like they're some Leftist Corporate Memphis Art
>Destiny>Concord>MarathonSounds like faggot shit to me
Unlike
>TEAM Fortress>Tribes>Counter-Strike>Call of Duty>Overwatch>DoomNow these sound at least half interesting.
>>712618853 (OP)they will make the same mistakes again.
