I watched the Wicker Man recently, the 1970s version, it was a great film, definitely worth a watch.

I've liked Majulaar recently.
He has a pretty soft touch. He's played games that are obviously dogshit, like FromSoft's Shadow Tower or Dark Seed 2, but he gives them all a soft landing. Which I think is pretty respectable.

I think his issue is that he assumes that everything in a game is put there with the deliberate intention of conveying an important message.
Like he was looking at the decorative carvings on bridges and buildings in Bloodborne and trying to suss out information on some kind of lost religion with them.
This to me is patently silly because those the artists that were making those assets probably only had a minimum of communication with anyone in charge of the story, and their design guidelines were almost certainly just vague, "looks Victorian, elaborate and Church-y". And when the final product looked good enough, it shipped.

You can read into some of the details in a game like Bloodborne or Elden Ring, when it comes to environmental design, but most of it is not going to be that meaningful.
The teams making these games are large, the amount of environmental assets made are huge, and it is even clear that the stories are rarely even finalized until shortly before release.
