Katana pride is literally the only thing Japanese got as a semblance of their past as proud warriors, this is why they keep convincing themselves its the ultimate sword and that it can cut through bullets and tanks. Its literally the last thing they have

Yes, the Kriegsmesser is basically the katana done right. And it also beats the katana in terms of aesthetics which is the only thing katanas have going for them.
Also, the katana just looks 10 times cooler in the hands of a White man than in an Asian's.

The point is that most everyone knows of Excalibur. Sure, everyone knows what a katana is, but they also most likely know what a european longsword is. Therefore, the east should have a legendary, named weapon that most people all around the world know of, no?

Why this restriction? A huge part of why the katana is still popular and highly regarded in popular culture is because it appears in anime, games and whatnot. Saying it doesn't count is simply adding onto your cope.
And if you remove popular culture from the equation then I assure you that even fewer people would know about Excalibur.

Even if you include anime, I'd still wager money on more people on the streets recognizing the name Excalibur than any named weapon from an anime. And if the poll was done in Japan, the people would most likely recognize both, meaning that Excalibur is known everywhere, whereas the weeb swords are more likely to be recognized only in their country of origin or by niche groups outside of said country.

I will concede that in terms of public knowledge Excalibur would win over something like Muramasa.
Yet despite that recognition it isn't the longsword that is shown cutting through bullets, tanks, and whatnot unless it is Fate which is ironically Japanese. Hence my point that if a story writer wants a sword that does cool shit, they will pick a katana more times than an western sword. Because it has that image firmly ingrained.

Sure, a katana will be chosen for such things. But when a movie wants to denote someone a righteous hero, maybe even imbued with divine power, they will almost exclusively choose an arming sword of some kind.

Then it comes down to which is objectively cooler, action hero shit or DEUS VULT. And that is another can of worms entirely.

You implied it by bringing it up. Anyone with a modicum of common sense could have inferred that the Excalibur that is being referred to is the one from the Arthurian legend, not any knock-off media.

samurai armors were also made of steel but katanas were mostly kept as side weapons by their soldiers while the lords kept them as self defense weapons when the enemies would come close to them, also the armor they wore only used thin sheets of steel to protect them against slashes and blunt weapons, anything pointy would go through and make a wound

Nope, Greek. The cultural peak of India and Greece coexisted, and Alexander's influence spread far, so we get a lot of context for Persia, India, Egypt etc.
It helps that history lessons are hard focused on antiquity and parts of the medieval era, aside from a brief 1800-1945 window we're taught little about anything post ~1000, because it's been nothing but a millennium of suffering.

Not quite if we take the standard katana as in uchigatana. The tachi was the cavalry sabre and the changes between it and uchigatana are in big part due to a shift from a cavalry weapon to a gentleman's sidearm. It looks pretty different, but in a way it's closer to a claymore or a smallsword by function.

Disney cartoon for kids. Disney was brainwashing kids around the world since the Cold War. That's why everyone knows about Mulan and the Huns. The Disney movie is more popular than Atilla the Hun.

Ask somebody about King Arthur and they'll tell you he pulled the sword out of a rock. Nobody knows it was actually Lady of the Lake.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:

(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage
19-20 x4 Crit
+2 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)
2d10 Damage
17-20 x4 Crit
+5 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.
