Maybe Bethesda just sucks

All Bethesda games are great for the first 20-40 hours when everything is new and cool, then they become shallow, repetitive slogs.

Usually the main quest & story also suck ass and the best is sidequests

It's always the scaling and skill progression in TES. Leveling some skills without using an exploit like acrobatics, athletics, security or sneak is just a nightmare.

You just level these up naturally and there's not much real gameplay benefit.
>security
Pointless, you can open any lock at any skill level if you're patient and not retarded.
>sneak
This one I understand, but you can't expect your heavy armor beserker to magically turn into a sneaky thief overnight, that would break muh roleplaying immersion.

No vendor has enough money for high mercantile skill to make much of a difference unless you're trying to sell junk. Maybe it would have mattered if there was some serious money sink, but there isn't.

Major skills level up faster, and surely if you picked them you intend to make use of them (so it's not much of a chore). Of course, if you're a retard who tried to game the system and picked sneak, for example, as a major, while not intending to play as a sneaky character from the start, you played yourself I guess.

they also fixed spell leveling so it's based on magicka cost instead of casts

The game is shit, though. The guild quests are the only half way decent part of the game and I did those 20 years ago so there are no surprises. You're just left with the shitty scared world and dungeons with nothing in them but crappy level scaled treasure chests. Been in one been in them all

>having everything not be pseudo level gated is a mistake in any rpg

All the greatest and most influential CRPGs that the contrarians on this board love to shit on have no scaling or it's very limited. Fallout, Might and Magic, Baldur's Gate 1 - 3, Gothic series, Deus Ex, etc all have no scaling or it's very selective in the case of BG2. Even modern CRPGs such as Pathfinder have no scaling. RPGs that scale usually always suck (Bethesda slop) or are only enjoyed because of their story (Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins).

Yeah, it is. And that's still the best part of the game which says a lot about how bad Oblivion is when it isn't propped up by overhaul mods that desperately try to make the world worth exploring.

It's going to be medieval Fallout 4 with the same boring, tired scrap collecting/base building that has been in every game since then. It'll have the same tired perk system that Skyrim, Fallout 4, 76, and Starfield does. The main quest will be even worse than Starfield since they've been getting progressively worse in every game since Skyrim. Why are people still excited for this crap? I won't even pirate ES6 after playing Starfield.

Only vanilla Morrowind is good without mods propping it up and that's because you can actually find cool stuff out in the world without it all being level scaled slop. You can break into a rich noble's house and actually find a piece of daedric gear at level 1 if you're crafty enough to steal it without getting caught. You can never do that in Skyrim or Oblivion without mods.

My take is only contrarian if you've never played a CRPG before. If all that you've ever known is shit like modern MMOs, Bethesda games, and crap like Diablo 3/4 which are all obnoxiously scaled (and have no difficulty), you'd find my take contrarian. I guess it probably is considering the average age of the poster here. You guys only know slop. That's why half the threads here are steam chart threads arguing about AAA sales and the other half is coomer bait.

Statically placed unchanging gear is more predictable than random gear, yet another self own. Face it, you hate Oblivion and Skyrim because they're the more popular TES games

It is not when you're play the game for the first time. You're speaking from the perspective of having played a game to death over and over. I notice the scaling in Bethesda games within the first 10 hours having never played the game before. There is no sense of exploration and wonder once you realize that there is nothing to find out in the world. I'll give Skyrim credit for at least having dragon shouts to collect and dragon priest masks to find (even though the masks themselves were usually scaled).

The UI is even worse. Instead of clicking a single key to view the local map, you have to zoom in every single time. It's stupid and obnoxious that they made an already bad UI worse.
