How do I, as a writer, find a team of people willing to help me make a game?

I have a strong story that's popular within a community, but none of our artists have the time or resources to devote to such a project.

It would be an Ace Attorney-style game where you play as a journalist trying to make connections between keywords you hear from other characters, through a primary gameplay system based on the puzzle board game Kanoodle.

The object of the puzzle segments would be to fill in the grid. Selecting keywords determines which fixed pieces you'll get and the locations they would take up on that grid, which you would have to play around, selecting pairs of keywords in order to determine the path the story takes. Some pairs would result in unsolvable board states, some would result in solvable states that only add additional information about characters or the world they inhabit, one would (usually) result in a bad ending, and one would result in progressing the story.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty constrained in multiple ways, in that regard. First of all, it would be based on a Gay Furry Romance story I'm writing for /trash/. And second, I don't own the character, and the owner of the character doesn't want it to be a commercial project.

I have, and I haven't really gotten anywhere.

It would be nice to start with real art to draw some eyes, or at least a prototype of the gameplay, but I'm not an artist, obviously, and I haven't done any programming in over ten years, and I was never good at it.

I would have a much easier time if I had either a gameplay prototype or some high quality mockups to get the idea across, but I'm really just a writer.

Well, what exactly are your goals? What kind of scope are you expecting for this project, and do you even have enough story to actually adapt?

The original story is well over 85,000 words so far. The game would just be adapting a small part of it. The scope is naturally going to be kept small, because it's not going to be commercialized. It would just be a proof of concept because I feel like it would make a good supplement to the story, and maybe get more people interested in our little niche.

There are plenty of sites you could put the word out on, Twitter, bluesky, itch.io, maybe even publish the story on AO3 and some other platforms to see if there's interest there?

Ideally, I'd like to keep it a sort of Kawata Shoujo or Snoot Game thing, where it's made by a community from this website in particular. But if I keep drawing a blank here, I might have to look a little harder.

I doubt that's going to work out for you, unfortunately. I wish you the best of luck, but unless you can actually produce something to prove your concept, it'll be an uphill battle.

What if I told you the protagonist is a human, and this is the love interest? It wouldn't be the typical Baraslop, and the story is fundamentally different to the majority of gay furry VNs.

There isn't much art of the character to train a model on, only about 13 examples, and I don't think the guy who actually owns the character would be up for that, even if it's just to make some nice looking proof of concept screenshots.

Write and PUBLISH your works (no, posting to fucking /trash/ doesn't count), then learn some basic game devs skills be it art or programming (even the most rudimentary is fine), then join a visual novel dev community and participate in game jams, offer your skills as a writer and cite your PUBLIC portfolio. From there, communicate with people you've worked with or like the look of and offer employment, giving them a brief summary of what the project is and how much you'll pay them for their time, put together a small test flight demo and shill it across the internet.
The only way to skip any of these steps is through fat stacks of cash.

Unless the story is a branching murder mystery where the only furry shit is a human in the background stating "oh no, my gay animal husband is dead", it doesn't help. "Not engaging in baraslop" shouldn't be a pro. It should be expected of any game.

I am clearly not the market for this, I was just enticed by Keywords/AA/Kanoodle. You can surely get the funding you need from some fag patreon crap. Patreon is basically furry funding as I understand it.

I don't own the character. The person who does, doesn't want it to be a commercial product.

>>712629009
It's relatively serious. One of the most ardent supporters of this idea was one of the people who worked on the original Snoot Game mod that became I Wani Hug That Gator, before Cavemanon took it over.

In that case, retool it into your own character? It's really not hard to slap a new coat of paint on someone/thing and call it your own. Unless this involves a broader world or fiction? This isn't fanfic is it?
