Dark Souls III was pretty good.
I just wish it was less linear. It's more or less a straight line with a couple of side areas.

Dark Souls 3 is not linear at all. You always get to choose between 2, 3 or more directions where you can go depending on what you want
People who claim it's a linear game are retards that think level design is corridors looping back to starting areas. There's a lot of smart balance and thoughtful placement in Dark Souls 3.

>It's relatively linear compared to Dark Souls 1 and 2.
It isn't though. It's as nonlinear as Dark Souls and far more than 2 where you get constantly shut down and pigeoholed into 2 paths that merge right after No Man's Wharf or Forest of the Fallen Giant

Dark Souls 3 made the conscious choice to design its world around large dungeons developing through branches of routes. That's why after the tutorial you can access 3 different areas at any time.

I still feel that Dark Souls 1 and 2 did a better job with how their areas interconnect.
My apologies if I haven't made myself clear: I still think Dark Souls III is a great game, I just wish there were more area interconnections, like how Smouldering Lake was originally connected to Profaned Capital.

I just really value the flexibility provided by area interconnection. For example, you can take the Master Key in Dark Souls 1 and completely skip Undead Burg, Undead Parish, Lower Undead Burg, The Depths, and most of Blighttown. There's nothing like that as an option in Dark Souls 3. How you progress through the game is very much fixed.
I know it doesn't mean much to you, but it does to me. It doesn't ruin the game for me or anything, I simply prefer how Dark Souls 1 did it.

My apologies for any confusion or consternation my opinion may have caused.

You can't, as you are bound to Sen's Fortress
>There's nothing like that as an option in Dark Souls 3. How you progress through the game is very much fixed.
False, as, just like in Dark Souls, you can delay going through certain areas and aim specifically at seeking certain build tools, with the added advantage that the DLCs aren't locked behind Duke's Archives. There's a lot of nonlinearity, far more choice on how you progress the first 30 minutes of your run even, but you don't consider it because you are obsessed with the idea that a game level design can only be good if it's a make a microcosmic maps netted together and you are glamourizing what you percieve as great game design more than the actual benefits of nonlinearity in games

>You can't, as you are bound to Sen's Fortress
You absolutely can. You can reach Sen's Fortress via Valley of Drakes, completely skipping all the areas I just mentioned.

You can't skip most areas in Dark Souls 3. There's a couple of areas you can delay going to, and a couple of optional zones, and that's it.
I feel like you are taking an incredibly antagonistic position towards me and making a lot of assumptions about my position.
My apologies, but I strongly doubt there is much else to be gained from continuing this discussion with you. Go ahead and take this as a "win" if you feel like it. Thank you for your time.

>You absolutely can.
No you literally can't. Bell Gargoyles are a necessary step to open Sen's Fortress because they protect one of the bells, and even then the game considers entering fron Darkroot to the Titanite Demon arena as entering the Undead Parish. You don't even know the actual progression of Dark Souls, which really shows how the circlejerk around this very specific nonlinearity of following a singular path around a specific series of locations nothing more than a masturbatory pseudo intellectual faggotry with far less involvement and gameplay ramifications than people make it out to be

And you don't need to fight through Undead Parish to get there, you can get there from Andre's via Valley of Drakes, skipping Undead Parish as a result.

I was right. There really isn't anything to be gained from discussing this with you.
Calm down and stop embarrassing yourself.

I like its gameplay far more than Bloodborne
Whereas Bloodborne is artistically more unique and somewhat novel, mechanics like gun parry and rally aged really badly
Dark Souls 3 feels like the first proper action system Fromsoftware has made

You have to clear the Undead Parish and defeat the boss to reach the Bell.
