How come Final Fantasy is so popular among adults when the games are written for little children? There's no nuance, every villain is just doing something bad for kicks and you can't rationalise their actions. Consider the anti-industrialisation and pollution theme which stretches over multiple titles, despite being an important plot point it's shallow as an puddle. In the real world the systematic destruction of nature has lifted billions of people out of poverty but in FF it's just wrong and people do it because they're hecking evil

I think the only people who still care about the franchise are those who played and loved the earlier entries in the series as kids. Actual kids or even younger adults nowadays don't care about it because it has failed to attract younger audiences as the games they've been making for the past 10+ years have all been mostly mediocre as far as I can tell.
