You can recruit anyone and everyone before the tutorial is over, so there's no need to really play any of the Origins other than maybe Lohse because she gets unique dialogue from talking to the voice in her head that the player never really hears if you just recruit her. I could be wrong though because I've never played the origin characters.

You can't side with everyone, you can't have access to every single dialogue option, you can't get every backstory in one playthrough. It's not fucking Skyrim.

i had much lower hopes for bg3 because the characters had that "california RPG" vibe, like pic related, with everyone quipping and oversharing their emotions and trauma dumps all the time. i honestly think this is like 80% of the reason why people (thirdies who haven't played it) shit on it.

there is some of that essence, especially in karlach and maybe gale, but overall the characters are sincere and generally likeable. i especially thought astarion would be a "corny gay vampire" archetype that would make sex jokes all game but it turns out he generally views intimacy with seething contempt and only projects a seductive image because its his literal job lol

Yes, saying more is spoilers. If anything, he's THE character the story is centred around, big picture in any case. Two playthroughs I've made were OC with a team wishing I was playing as Fane, and solo Fane, the latter being a blast and way more of a thematic adventure.

Should I restart my game with a full party instead? I went lone wolf because I thought playing as a powerful skeltal mage was cool, but it feels annoying having to cheese a lot of encounters because enemies will just be completely immune to my moves and cc me to death.

I finished my first playthough as Fane. Gonna install a bunch of spells and weapons mods and play as Ifan. Probably gonna drop Marcus from the party since the 5 party men is already plenty.
