Desktop. The internal components will last longer due to better airflow(get a proper case and ventilation going). Also, cap your framerate to 60fps so your video card doesn't fry in 3 years.

Cannot think of a good reason to get a laptop if you don't specifically need to travel and game at the same time.
Even if you don't want to play demanding games, a desktop offers highly superior ergonomics.
A laptop forces you to play on a 16 or 17 inch screen, straining your neck looking downwards and with a terrible feeling keyboard.
And if you buy a properly sized screen and keyboard to remedy that, the desktop will win handily on performance per dollar.

laptops aren't rugged enough to actually carry them around with you treating them like a textbook or something. You have to treat them like some precious object or you'll flex the PCB and fuck them up within weeks. The people that have old working laptops leave them on a desk like they would a desktop, in which case get a desktop.

If you are at home Desktop.
If yup travel a lot or can bring machines to work laptop.

Anonymous No.712641759 [Report]
>>712638705 (OP)
No, it's only better to have a laptop if you actually need the portability. Just like performance, cooling, value and so on are compromised on laptops, so are ergonomics for the sake of portability. Using a laptop sucks ass in a very practical sense, you don't actually want to look down into a tiny screen for hours or use their smaller and worse keyboards and so on. It's not as comfortable, significantly less so.

Sure you can use external, full-size peripherals with laptops as well but at that point you're just buying and paying for more shit. You don't need a laptop in the first place if you don't need the portability.

This, buying laptops in this day and age is a massive waste of money and you're subjected to planned obsolescence, along the fact that they're a nightmare to repair and most of them can't be upgraded. That and they come with W11 preinstalled, I wouldn't wish that to my worst enemy, I already had to reinstall the OS twice in my sister's laptop because of updates and bitlocker bullshit.

A PC might be more expensive, but it will be a way better investment in the long term, can last you for years, you can upgrade parts as you see fit and it's actually fun building a PC from scratch, you get to learn a lot about components and PC configurations.

You will either burn your legs or clog your fans if you place the laptop on the bed, and if in that case you say that you will use a stand, then why not just build a PC and plug a wireless keyboard and mouse instead?

In no world a laptop is a superior choice to a dedicated PC.

I have a portable monitor and miniPC with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Kinda like this but only a single monitor. I only need 2 cables: 1 for miniPC power, and 1 usb4 (looks like usbc) which is both power and display for monitor.

If I really wanted to be "portable", I could technically keep a powerbank in my backpack to plug into. I don't really care because even laptops have like 1 hour battery life and need to charge all the time. Upside of this setup is that it's more powerful and doesn't overheat. I do this because I travel sometimes and want a temporary pc.

I wouldn't touch a modern Mac even if someone paid me to use one because they have removed almost every single USB port from them just to force you into buying adapters. Just a quick anecdote, I work on tech support for a certain company that sometimes requires users to upload data by connecting their devices to their computers, and almost without fail people who use Mac can never do it because the adapters cause connection issues or won't properly detect the device.

You’re right. The closest I’ve discovered is having a monitor on an arm, having an adjustable mattress base that tilts, and using a large foldable bed and breakfast table for a wireless keyboard and mouse. At that point you’re going to such lengths to emulate a desk and it’s not conducive to winding down to get ready to sleep that it’s not worth the novelty.

I have "gaming laptop" from 2023, bought for ~1000$ Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G733, I can play Oblivion Remastered with at least 40fps at any moment. I don't really play AAA slop. Closest game to this, maybe, Elden Ring, and it was very smooth. The biggest problem is, it's actually very loud when all fans are at 100%.
So my advice, if you have a place for it, I suggest PC, it's cheaper, faster, quieter, you can upgrade it in the future, it's modular.
But, if you have to move your shit at least once a month or don'treally care, get a gaming laptop.

A gaming laptop can play graphically demanding gaymen, main problemo here is that the gpus in there barely have 6gb of vram, which is highly low now that the bare minimum to play something without missing textures is 16gb
Unironically, long term is much better to buy something with the ryzen ai max 395 with at least 64gb of shared ram and dedicate 16gb for the gpu or some macbook pro with the mx max if you can deal with having to use wine and rosetta.

Laptops have too many heating/throttling issues. You have to buy cooling pads and such and it really kills the portability. Unless you only plan to play shit from the 2000s then no problem.

>M4 Max
Ryzen Max mogs that, mostly because it can run Windows, but it's also better in performance.
