>watching "video game youtubers" enough to even know their tropes in the first place
Disgusting, subhuman zoomer behavior.

Some of them are afraid to pirate a game that you can't easily get otherwise but are fine watching someone else who pirated it. This always seemed funny to me.

But they might just start watching someone who played a game they liked or were interested in. Or they do play the games themselves after finding out about it from them. They might want to watch competitive players at a high level.

I dunno, even all the way back to when arcades were more popular it wasn't uncommon for people sit around watching someone else play sometimes. Could be that they didn't have money to play but it would also just be to watch two people in a fighting game or something, or just watching someone who was really good at a hard game.
