It's particularly tortuous if for some reason you're speedrunning the main story and didn't level your lockpicking/alchemy properly. I managed to skip some steps because thankfully I had that perk that allowed me to make more mistakes on alchemy recipes and still get results so I never found the actual recipe for the fever concoction I just read what materials it needed and how many from some book and managed to craft it regardless of detailed instructions.

in my personal opinion KCD2 makes you play doctor way too much

Its a complete technical side-grade. Its slightly refined more of the same from the first game, thats just longer.
However, because writing is like 50% of what an RPG actually is, and the writing is OBJECTIVELY woke i.e. written by a committee of losers who ascribe to the california social cult and can't write well because they do not have experiences of any quality to draw upon from their own plastic, pathetic urbanite social activist millennial lives.

The first game was a good game, so technically this is also a good game, but like mentioned above since the writing hold such a heavy weight in this kind of medium, the poor quality of writing is enough to change the game from a side-grade to an OBJECTIVELY worse game.

The only problem with the castle, is that if you learned to play and leveled your skills, you should be able to splatter all the retards manning it without much effort. However, there is no special outcome if you do that, you still have to jump through the same hoops and get the same cutscene, even though there may be literally no guards left to keep Capon in his cell.

One actual problem with KCD2 is sheer amount of ludonarrative dissonance it causes, because there are many cases like that. I'm not sure if I ever seen a game causing more ludonarrative dissonance.
