What would you do to fix the franchise then? Here's mine.

>Classic
Use the concept art for fused forms from Mega Man 11 to give Mega Man and his relevant siblings Boost adapters. Mega Man + Rush = Rush Boost, Proto Man + Tango = Tango Boost, Roll + Beat = Beat Boost. Have 5 of the robot masters be Water Man, Hot Woman, Earth Man, Ninja Woman, and Thunder Man. And have the other 3 be decided via a robot master creation contest.

Also, Mega Man powered up 2.

Start out with X, Zero, and Alia. Have 4 of the 8 maverick stages contain Light capsules for X, and the other 4 contain Wily capsules for Zero. One you've rescues at least 100 reploids, Axe gets repaired. Mavericks includes Oil possum and a female Maverick named Useless Useless Unicorn who puts on lipstick and dies of old age.

Give the legends fans what they want so they can shut up.

>Battle Network
An interquel or a side game. I don't care as long as it has Crashman EXE.

>ZX
ZXC where you play as Prairie who can mega merge with Model C which has the soul of Ciel.

Starforce Mega Man can use noise changes based on the satellite admis, the O-parts, the Angel & Pirate O-parts, Lyra, and Pedia. Zack can EM wave change with Pedia. Lans descendant can EM wave change into X EXE.

7 crossovers between Mario & Mega Man not counting Smash even if Mario has to crossover with each mainline Mega Man series. Because that blue rodent has had it too good for too long, it doesn't matter what you think.

Do you think a fully 3D classic style mega man could work (not like Legends or X7)?
Something where it retains the focus on platforming and shooting takes skill (no lock-on) and can be done while platforming (no TPS-like aiming, just shoot in directions + 45 degree angles like in Super Metroid).
Basically X7 but good and classic instead of X style.
Thinking of trying to prototype something like this.

To answer you, I like the classic with fused forms idea. Sounds cool.

All I want from Mega Man is ZXC and, to a lesser extent, Maverick Hunter X to continue and realign the rest of the series. I understand that they HAD to start at X1 if they were going to go all out but remaking the best game in the franchise was always a doomed endeavor, doubly so on PSP.

I don't know. I think Mega Man 11 being 2.5D was the perfect compromise. I think 2D games are outdated because I always knew video games would go 3D, and I think it's easier to make new costumes. But I remember seeing a thumbnail for a video talking about how the transition to 3D wasn't kind to Mega Man. Also, no lock-on AND no TPS? Then how is it suppose to work without the gameplay being bad? Because I don't want FPS to be the future of video games, especially not Mega Man. Can't the lock-on at least be optional like Starfox 64? Or have it be like arrows in botw/totk?

The problem with 3D isn't that it doesn't work for Mega Man. It's that Capcom are too scared even despite all their modernizations and revivals to ever try again because X7 was just that shit, and honestly I can't even call it so shit that it's like Superman 64 or Bubsy 3D tier, it's just not really good.
The only way you'd ever see Mega Man hybridize 3D into the gameplay is just straight up not going to be a 1:1 platformer that happens to move in 3D. They would mix it up. Ratchet & Clank, Lost Planet, Recore, I dunno what could serve as inspiration and a basis, but they sure as shit don't want to just staple 3D onto 2D designed gameplay ever again.

I want something to feel like a classic mega man but in a fully 3D environment.
I definitely don't want an FPS.
But I don't want to make it a TPS with auto aim, would feel too generic and not mega man-like.
Like, you'll be moving in 3D TPS style but your shots would have real dimensionality to them and take up space and you'd have to consider where to shoot while you're platforming like in 2D mega man. You'd have to have very predictable and controllable shot angles and make it feel right control-wise. I want spacing and movement to be a consideration in the shooting as much as the platforming, not just lock on and blast away like most platformers with shooting, which I find boring.

And Mega man is no example. Last I checked, Mario & Mega Man are the only video game franchises to have at least 100 titles, but Mario still keeps em coming. My take on a Mega Man reboot would place it long enough after Legends that it may as well be a new continuity, maybe throw in some Jungian universal recurrence for good measure. Treasure hunter sleaze builds a robot to explore ruins for him. Robot accidentally has to be a hero. Maybe the Elder System Sera mentioned can finally fully activate here, maybe the long-term plot is about finally giving humans (or whatever they are at this point) a fresh start. Maybe it's about reviving the pure human race. I dunno, plot stuff doesn't matter just give it the tone of Porco Rosso and put robots on top and it'll be good.

Gameplay would be a movement focused 3D platformer, maybe a camera more like Splatoon than Mario Odyssey otherwise you'd have trouble running and running and need some kind of auto lock thing. Give Rock a wall run, slide, dodge roll, context sensitive actions and the ability to steal enemy powers on the fly for a few shots. Eight stages you can move between freely or warp to from your home base. Few sub missions on each stage in addition to finding the treasure/stopping the boss robot. Making money is the goal, I think.

I could see it being a lot of fun.

do a "pixel remaster" collection of Megaman 1-10 (7 and 8 doesn't need it, but they still should be included)

by that I mean update the 8 bit games into 16 bit (a much better middle ground between retro style and pleasing looks) and also fix the shitloads of little issues literally every game in the series has. Bullshit powerspikes, ridiculously overpowered weapons/items here and there, unfun robot master fights, etc. Also actually add intros to MM1 and 3, and potentially more difficulty options for casuals. a jazz jack rabbit2 style split screen coop mode would be nice and pretty easy to add too

Currently there is just no good way to get into the series as a whole. People will pick up the collection and get filtered by MM1 iceman or elecman stage, or go to MM2 and get filtered by pretty much any stage that isn't metal or bubble man at first.

also MM12 needs to be more ambitious. Capcom got lazy with 9-10 and even 11 was kind of a lower effort game. 12 needs to be more ambitious like MM7 and 8 was, it needs higher production values and it needs to progress the story, introduce new characters, etc.

Just do the classic thing. Make some cheap, short, but heartfelt action platformers that occasionally reuse assets, so you just spend time exploring interesting bosses and level design. Mega Man doesn't need a grand overarching plot, it can just be straightforward arcadey gameplay. I get the feeling Capcom likes keeping MM releases sparse to generate desire, or because it's not as profitable as MH or RE.

A loaded question with an impossible answer. Fans will generally say Classic 2 or 3 and X1 or 4, but there's so many games it's impossible to say one is inherently the best altogether of all of them. So many minute differences, notable additions, big shakeups. I don't like Mega Man 2 much myself but enjoy 6 a lot despite some people seriously treating it like a black sheep, for example.

For an inverse answer to your question, never let anyone tell you Mega Man 7 was bad.
