Back in the day you had games like Half-life 2 that give you developer commentary through the game to show you why they designed things the way they did and how it's super important to immersing the player in subtle but effective ways. Kind of like showing up in Ravenholm for the first time and being shown that the level was actually designed specifically with the physics engine in mind and how a minor detail like a zombie's upper body being pinned to a wall by a sawblade actually subtly teaches the player they can launch sawblades at enemies.
Of course nowadays you don't see any of that shit anymore outside of the standard tutorial level that teaches you the bare minimum to complete the game and leave it at that. It matters more that the level looks "PHOTOREALISTIC" and "HIGH QUALITY" rather than if it's actually fun. Who cares if you want to mess around with things and experiment? Just appreciate the graphics and move on.
No real celebration of what you can do, just what's expected of you to do.
