What is this "The original is better than Remake, actually" phenomenon I've been seeing?
Was it just born from "popular thing bad" contrarianism?
If you've actually played both then it's no contest that Remake is a better designed game and actually feels like a horror game.

Crazy how much of a downgrade remake on gc was. Bro who is lighting the candles? Why is when you go outside on the balcony it's a thunderstorm but when you immediately go inside it turns off?

REmake is the exception, not the rule where even with the cut choices/alternate scenes, the game ends up overall being better than the original (which is still worth playing). More often than not, remakes are infinitely worse than the game they are copying. I mean really, did Dead Space need a freaking remake? Did Last of Us?

It doesn't address the one glaring weakness of the original with the caves grinding forward momentum to a halt.
It actually manages to make the caves worse and then forces you to backtrack all the way to the mansion's entrance hall so you can fight the second most retarded monster in the series next to Monster Steve in a Mortal Kombat arena to gain access to the labs.

Just as soulless as any modern remake

Why not? It's common for scientists to be fucking dorks and not good at expressing themselves in writing. I could see one of them going "wow these suits look just like space suits" because he's a fan of astronauts and space travel

i didnt see anyone claim the ps1 version is better than the gc version until a few years ago. I been on v since 2014

Discourse online used to be near-unanimous that the remake was better, but I also knew OG fans irl who didn't care for the remake. I think they're both worth playing.
