Is there a single reason this couldn't have released on the original switch as well?

The devs said the open world and 24 players would be too laggy.

remember all those PS5 exclusives that Sony was preparing that would take full advantage of the console, and then they just said fuck it and release everything on the PS4?

not even sony expected the snoy retards to buy the ps5 in droves with literally zero reason to. At that point they were like "fuck it, these retards will buy it anyway so put the games on ps4 to make more money"

>then they just said fuck it and release everything on the PS4
Because of picrel. Even four years in, most people stuck to PS4. Because they released a mini-PC with the multi-part scam FF7Remake as their big draw (cutting off PS4 at Rebirth too) and when that jumped ship to PC that set the tone for every other PS game to do the same.

The Switch can't handle 4K+60FPS+HDR+24 Players. You have to move on at some point.

You can just watch how botw and totk run on sw1 (20/30fps with dips) to 60fps with more resolution.
MKW runs at 60fps all the time.

Anonymous No.712680212 [Report]
It would have ran 30fps on the Switch at a much worse graphical fidelity, we're talking sub 720p, and that's not a compromise they were willing to make. Seeing as how MK8 Deluxe runs 1080p 60fps on the same console, it would have been a pretty hard sell as the game would just look infinitely worse than a Wii U game essentially.

That's irrelevant to the fact that 24 player races + track continuity with Switch 1 graphics at 1080p or higher at consistent 60 FPS wasn't possible on the Switch 1.
The Switch 2 is about pushing Switch 1 graphics into higher resolutions, anti-aliasing, some better texture work, and higher framerates. It's not a "generational step" where the games will look entirely different. They'll look like the old games but pop off the screen with higher fidelity.

Isn't this what people wanted? Graphics engines that support strong artistic direction without excess horsepower going into decadent yet superfluous features like memetracing? I thought everyone wanted PS2 graphics but at HD resolutions. Why are people complaining when a console that's about delivering that experience actually comes out?

>It's not a "generational step" where the games will look entirely different.
Except it is a generational step. What we're seeing is a game that started development on Switch, and then was moved to Switch 2. We're not going to see the "real" power of Switch 2 until we see a graphical powerhouse like Monolith Soft put out a new Xenoblade game.

Power wise the generational leap from Switch to Switch 2 is comparable to that of PS3 to PS4, which is pretty significant. And Mario Kart World runs at 1440p 60fps, and is an open world game with zero loading times. A lot of open world games even on modern platforms are struggling to hit consistent framerates. There's also more going on with Mario Kart in its lighting system, whereas MK8 used all prebaked lighting, so less expensive to render in general.

>Isn't this what people wanted?
It is, and I think most people are content with it because their Switch 1 games run better and now they're getting games that wouldn't be able to run on Switch 1 period. You're also getting cutting edge ports for games like Cyberpunk which are running better on Switch 2 than they would on PC handhelds that cost twice the price. It's not an underpowered device whatsoever and is making even dedicated PC boxes like Xbox Series S sweat, as a hybrid console. I think with how fast this thing is selling, yeah people are pretty satisfied. The ones screaming about not buying it clearly in the vocal minority.

>one of the big takes with world is how much the open world doesn't lend itself to the core gameplay
>in fact all the hype about the wall-riding and rail-riding tech its seen as a problem how often you're doing intermission tracks that don't lend itself to the movement enough
We could have gotten a Mario 9 which simply brought wall and rail riding to a more bogstandard non-open world game. And not only could they have done that on the switch 1 but it could have been released years ago.

lol that's fair, and in hindsight I think Nintendo just really hates AA in general for their first parties. That being said, it's clear that the Switch 2 is targeting much higher quality on the same level of fidelity as last gen
>>712682634
I should clarify - it *is* a generational step, but it's not a *leader* in cutting edge fidelity by design. In Nintendo fashion, it's a stable target that pushes the console back into mainstream palatability (think Bloodborne but with some better shader work), which is honestly a smart move when every other platform is in an arms race for who can layer the most UE5 lighting features into their games.
There is nothing "bad" about the fidelity target on the Switch 2. The only thing people keep asking for is a competitor for current PC/PS5Pro games on mobile, but traditionally handhelds have always been a half or full generation behind their larger brothers, but in no way is a PS4-looking video game unappealing. Most PS5 games are PS4 video games with more shaders, higher framerates, larger render distances, etc., but fundamentally the same experience. Contrast this with the jump from Morrowind to Oblivion or Skyrim. The power of the 360/PS3 generation made a traditionally PC-only genre not only viable to run but viable to render on console hardware
