Undertow Spillway is brutal. I was just in a Big Run match where high-tide hit. Because of how this map is structured, one of my team-mates got put in the time-out zone of the map ala dying and respawning on an outer-edge island surrounded by the sludge. The problem is the automatic derank at the end of each season. There's a lot of really good players who don't want or have the time to grind to S+10 or 2000 X Power, so they just chill in early S+ for most of the season and then get kicked back to S for the crime of not grinding more. Then players who were already in S or make it it S get their ass handed to them by players that were doing well in S+ the month prior.

While I don't think rank decay is entirely a bad idea, the way it's handled in Splatoon 3 is retarded. If a player is playing consistently and performing acceptably (not going into points debt), why derank them for the arbitrary reason of the calendar ticking over from May 31st to June 1st? It makes no sense and throws off the entire ranking system. Now if someone barely played the whole season or was consistently losing games in S+, then it would make more sense for their rank to decay.

Even top players, like Chase247, say the matchmaking in Anarchy Series is awful. Hopefully we will see some improvements with the new weapon power system, which I am quite surprised the development team added.

With a good team (and there's some excellent players in the pool), you can easily gain around 400 EVP in two hours. So that's about 800 EVP in four hours. On average it's gonna take 6-8 hours for most people to 999 which can be spread out over a couple of days. Whether it's PVP or Salmon Run, do not underestimate how valuable it is to have the ground painted in your ink. It sounds simple, but a lot of people tend to forget it. The more turf you have, the easier things will go. This is doubly true in PVP and your teammates will value it.

If you want more specific tips depends on whether it's Salmon or what, because there's a lot of mode specific things to learn.

For Salmon Run, it's important to not ignore lesser salmonids or else you'll get overwhelmed. Obviously luring bosses to the basket means easier eggs, but you also need to prioritize killing the flyfish/stingers/big shots that spawn far away and immediately return to the basket area. Always be ferrying eggs or killing something, ideally both at the same time. Dying is really bad, don't do that. Always revive teammates immediately with bombs.

PVP you need to address the situation depending on what's going on. You don't want to be playing too passively, but if you're playing so aggressively that you're just dying repeatedly and not getting any results, you need to take a different approach. Often super jumping is dangerous, which is why people tend to always run Stealth Jump on their footgear because it's that good. But sometimes it's better just to swim in especially if your guys are fighting or you're down. When you have the numbers advantage, you push up. When you're the last guy standing, you retreat and try to get to a safe spot to give jumps to teammates.

In the ranked modes, it's hard to push the objective (zone, tower, rainmaker etc) until you've hurt the enemy or gathered specials. If you're respawning, don't immediately dive in while you're surrounded. Wait for teammates to respawn and return as a group, build special, and try and reclaim the turf.

In turf wars the last 30 seconds are the most important. You need to play cautiously so you don't die in that moment. Infiltrating base is a strong tactic but you have to be careful.

Splattershot is your most basic stand weapon, and quite strong, killing in 3 hits + trizooka and suction bomb.
octobush is pretty fucking brainless really. just get in range and mash ZR, though zipcaster is a bit technical.
N-Zap will be a good alterative to the splattershot due to tacticooler being strong and it still kills pretty fast.
slosher has good range. is a 2 hit kill no matter what + tri ink strike is a brainless special. just aim at/near enemies.

Are people in ranked genuinely braindead? Okay, "my teammates suck" is probably a worn out phrase but my teammates in ranked battles (A-) are genuinely stupid. Almost everyone is either feeding or staying back and not doing anything, it's INFURIATING. They don't help with the objective, they'll never advance, and they CONTINUOUSLY do the same stupid shit over and over again and die. I understand it's a childrens game, but even children have more common sense than this.

Anything below S/S+ is shitterland, and even at S/S+ you get a ton of shitters as well. This sounds like a copout response but eventually you'll be good enough to where you can counteract their bad play at those lower levels. What you need to do is take the initiative and either apply a ton of pressure, or be an immovable backline that just destroys anything that advances. This requires you to be pretty on point or patient, but the most important thing is not to let their dumb shit ruffle you. Even when it seems hopeless, you gotta perservere. I won multiple games today where we turned it around in overtime, but most of the match was a complete slog. Eventually you'll see those golden opportunities to turn things around even when you're dealing with mouthbreathers and capitalize on it. For now just stick with it, you'll slowly climb up. There's no need to be in any rush, you learn along the way. I still feel like I'm learning and I've been playing for a ton of time. Keeping your cool is one of the most important things you can do though.

and on that point, don't hyperfixate on what your teammates are doing. Yeah, it's important, but it's more important what the enemy is doing. They're going to be low skilled enough in A- where one solid play and you can completely wipe them out. Now I say don't get hung up on your teammates, but don't jump into battles expecting them to bail you out unless you know you got some reliable ones. Conversely, if you see them getting into fights, always fight in numbers i.e. 3 guys bullying 1 guy. Never take on those fights. Hit, make distance, and hit again. Don't get greedy.

Either way, don't get too hung up on whatever your team is doing. You can play off of them and even use them as bait to find a more advantageous angle to hit the enemy's blindspot with a flank. Use their sacrifice to the best of your advantage, their idiocy might create an opening for you if you play it right. Obviously you're gonna have to think on the fly. Every team, every situation, every loadout is different. It's all about making those second to second adjustments.

I have had this issue many times. It's that they are distracted and thinking of themselves than playing for the better of their team. Too many care too much about the K/D ratio than just doing what is needed at the time. Fundamentals are very important yet, so many just forget how to play the game normally and try to contribute by sticking together and to try and win.
