LMAO they actually believed people wanted hard games. They believed reddit when they said "git good" and "its easy for me lol, wish it was harder".
The game floped because its waaaay TOO hard. A challenge is good, but this was hard as fucks and all bosses was HP sponges. This game sucked and it sucked because they fell for "I like hard games" reddit meme. Fuck this losers.

Pretty much. The longer you play the less soulslike it becomes and the more it is just an action game. Going through it on NG+ is a completely different game since it unlocks bunch more special meter generation and you start regenerating stamina during special attacks so you are just endlessly murdering bosses with zero downtime instead of taking your turn and then stopping so your stamina can recharge like you do at the start of your first run.

I like it's level of difficulty. Souls bosses are often a bit too simple, which I guess goes with the basic gameplay of Souls player character. Khazan's flashier bosses and faster more varied player abilities are more fun IMO

this unironically sold me a copy of the game at full retail price. i would play The Witcher and Sekiro if they had similar DLCs. i've never been a fan of RPGs with male genderlocked protags.

I thought it was a good challenge, but that's probably because I came into it thinking it was more Nioh than Souls. Having a proper moveset you have to combo together, rather than just R1 spamming your way to victory was good. Set bonuses mattering and creating an entirely different playstyle to focus on was a blast. Even something simple as the Furious Bandit set that you can get early on and just keep updating by bullying the fuck out of Rankgus was above anything Souls shit had to offer. By the end of NG++, it was pretty much touching Nioh 2 in complexity. The bosses actually fighting back was a bonus.

It's 100% like souls, has the estus flask, the fucking camps, the fucking respawning enemies, the stamina, 1 skill point per level up, status effects that build up as you whack the enemy instead of just random chance on hit, etc. etc. It's motherfucking derivative of Dark Souls. You'd have to be retarded to deny that. Does it add some other shit to the mix like diablo loot and stance changing? Sure, but that doesn't make it a different genre.

What's funny is that it isn't even that hard if you can just string a basic combo together, but even that seems to be impossible for the average soulsfag. Almost every conversation about the difficulty of this game goes like this:
>Waaaaaaah, the bosses are damage sponges, this game is unfair and poorly balanced.
>Have you tried doing something other than just dodging and then pressing the light attack button three times?
>No, I should be able to play this like Dark Souls because this is a soulslike
>Well turn down the difficulty then.
>Nooooooooo, they need to nerf the bosses.
Really shows you that these people don't want to overcome challenges in an actually hard game, they just want to beat a game that has a reputation for being hard so they can brag about being "Souls veterans" as if that's some important life achievement.

Nioh is significantly more action focused than most Souls games tend to be. Animation cancels, combo chains, active skills that cost different resources depending on the skills. Nioh has it all.

You ask too much from a Souls player. To think about having to have more mechanical knowledge than just R1 until the boss falls down.

You can take a boss from full to nearly 50% in a single combo if you chain it together right.

After certain attacks (like burst counters) or a reflection, a boss will be put into a stagger state and lose their hyper armor. This is the moment you can start your longer combo chains to deal high damage. Normally bosses can't be staggered so being able to put a boss in that state consistently is a good sign of mastery.
