Literally my favorite feature of Nintendo controllers starting with the Wii U. For years, I always had to buy cheap third party Xbox controllers with digital triggers. Those controllers never held up well and had to be replaced every year or so. Then the Wii U Pro comes around and FINALLY there's a first party console controller with digital triggers. Once Mayflash adapters came around I got myself a Wii U Pro controller that I've been using for all my PC games since then. More recently, I had to get a Switch Pro because I wanted to use gyro once Steam started supporting that, and I was very happy to see that Nintendo stuck with digital triggers. I play it on PC where digital buttons on my keyboard control gas and brake, zero problems ever. If you're not playing an actual racing sim, you can get 100% of the control you need just from periodically releasing the gas or tapping the brake, half and quarter presses are simply not necessary.

I've tried controllers like that, they suck ass. Pressing a face button in tandem with an analog trigger is obnoxious, even if there's a stopper to shorten the pull distance. Digital triggers are far more responsive and consistent.

That said. If you look closely you can see that the face buttons are ever so slightly larger on the new controller. I wouldn't say that really matters but it's a difference. What does matter however is that the buttons are more springy and more clicky and that's kind of nice.
