The characters don't curse that much, or at least If they did it wasn't noticeable and forced like Hazbin. However what really makes the MC annoying is his nihilism and forced tough guy act. He'll talk like he's some harden survivor and then he'll do something that shows he's soft as cookie dough, like saving an annoying girl a hundred times because she reminds him of his wife's sister. Or how he constantly lies about grieving for his wife, it's ok to grieve your dead wife bro nobody is going to call you a pussy.
Compare that to Joel from The Last of Us. He doesn't need to pretend to be hard, he just is, which makes the moments where he softens more impactful.
