No FPS on PC even came close at the time
Inb4 quakefag posting the My First FPS image
this is what xbox dudebros that never grew up or bothered to go deeper into the hobby actually believe
>>712689258 (OP)A slow fps designed for gamepads. You can't be serious.
>>712689258 (OP)Halo was released on PC less than 2 years after XBox
>>712689621If judged purely as an FPS, Deus Ex is dogshit.
>>712689258 (OP)Ghost Recon and Tribes 2 were superior and on different ends of the FPS styles
i would have loved halo if i played it multiplayer because it has vehicles.
after playing MCC, this one and ODST are my favorites
>>712689827You could mod the pc version though
>>712689796Both are worse, you cant even see your gun in ghost recon
>>712690409You can mod the Xbox version.
>>712690409Cant mod in those graphical effects, it only finally got those features a few years ago in MCC
>>712689258 (OP)The fuck do you mean retard? Quake and Unreal Tournament had already been out for years.
>>712689796and both sold like shit and are dead while halo is still alive
>>712689258 (OP)>No FPS on PC even came close at the timei mean yeah, pc didn't have bad fps till halo clones started coming out
>>712689258 (OP)Halo is a slower and easier FPS, but still deserves a lot of credit for the size of its levels (expanding on the vistas you'd see in games like Unreal), the implementation of vehicles, the larger prominence of AI allies, and enemy squads consisting of distinct enemies of different types that will work together or react to each other's status. The closest to that at the time was Half-Life's Marines, and we all know that was all actually just smoke and mirrors that barely actually worked together.
I was playing all the classic valve games like counter strike/halflife/day of defeat etc. and stuff like Battlefield 2
Halo 1 is definitely the first game that made me think "holy shit, shooters really can be more than brown linear run and guns whose stories you don't pay attention to". I was fully invested in both gameplay, story, setting, and characters.
>>712689258 (OP)It was top tier in terms of story and setting, but the AR just felt all around awful to use compared to every other weapon because of how inaccurate and weak it was, if you weren't right in an enemy's face, you were wasting rounds.
>>712691089Yes, stop being a contrarian faggot and learn to think for yourself instead of "i must be le heckin badass outcastarino"
I just did my annual replays, I used the mythic mod overhauls this time and it was pretty fun.
>>712691251>learn to think for yourself by only following "more sales = more better" with no room for nuanceYou're right anon, the Minecraft movie is a cinematic masterpiece, as is Captain America: Brave New World, and the Lilo & Stitch live action remake
Avengers Endgame IS definitely the second best film ever created, my mistake
>>712691251Asbestos was the most popular insulation in the world for a long period of time, you should go ahead and fill up your house with it
>>712691603I had my house built in '74 and used asbestos and haven't had any problems.
Stop being a goy.

>>712689258 (OP)It was pretty cool. It had pretty good writing and world building for an FPS. The AI was well done and the larger scale conflict possible in campaign and multiplayer was really cool for the time. You actually felt like you were in a battlefield. I think this all genuinely stemmed from the RTS work they did when it was still one.
>>712691880Sorry anon there are very few games at the time that gave you the feeling the start of silent cartographer did
>>712689258 (OP)bro it was literally ripping off unreal. the only unique thing was the space zombies.
>>712693528>literally ripping off unrealDon't remember any vehicles or good weapons or varied AI in unreal so no you're wrong.
>>712689258 (OP)people are too casually dismissive of it. if you're a quake head and want to dismiss it completely from that angle fine, but if you're looking at hitscan military fps of that era halo has a place, certainly the single player campaign does. physics based large scale combat wasn't a dime a dozen in 2001.
yeah halo was pretty innovative, the scale, effects and specular mapping, physics, lighting and polish was impressive, other games would do certain things better maybe but halo had it all in one package and became the gold standard for fps console design
