Well, how do you observe the untimely death of e-celebs? By warranting their death through fate, uncontrollable outcomes, drunk driving? He died at the summit of his career and probably didn't realize it, which at the time, was the only thing more distracting than actual video games. I don't think anyone really remembers what else was popular at the time outside of him going apeshit and splatting all over the Hudson.

Their deaths. The big purchase of a farm or some other property that cannot be easily paid off through finance; so as to say "he bought the farm". A feeling of sadness that someone has deceased, accompanied by bereavement and confusion.

The stupid nigger died unceremoniously, as the man who worked too hard was very ceremoniously buried. The family of Akira Toiryama asked for privacy, secrecy and time for bereavement in a public statement. Everything about his funeral was well adapted and planned, even down to the visiting list. Etika on the other hand received a small shrine of votives and other memorabilia by the bridge where he died.

When a family asks for privacy they mean "leave us alone for a while", not "everyone has to ignore the death"
Etika recieved much more than he deserved and the unceremonious nature of his death was literally 100% his fault

People don't really die when they want to, I agree. But that still made the sticky on /v/, which is pretty much the point. It was credible enough that discussion about his life and death warranted a sticky. Not based on achievement, just on the quality of life that surrounded the person; he was pretty well taken care of and even Nintendo sponsored him for a while.

Some worthless, literal who e-celeb getting a sticky was basically signaling to anyone with lingering sanity or dignity that /v/ is dead. And not for a tragic death outside his control, no a fucking suicide. If a sticky for some tranny who did mocap for a game in the 2020's popped up because they slit their own throat I wouldn't be surprised.
