It never generate that much money after the first one. Just enough to fund the next game.
It's one of those show people like but don't buy. Prinnies are not uncomon in jap pop cultures, but it doesn't mean the games will sell. I suspect they make more money with the keyrings and goodies than the actual games these days.
I kinda liked the gatche too bad it didn't really took off either.

In the Disgaea universe. 100 years for a demon is equivalent to 1 year for a human. Which is why she appears to be a preteen at ~1200 years old. Etna was likely an infant for the first 300 years of her life. You could live your entire meager human span with Etna and it would be the equivalent to seeing one year of physical and emotional development in her.

That's all endgame stuff. It's not uncommon to finish the main story of a Disgaea game (typically 20-50 hours long) under level 100, while those 9999999999999 stat pictures you've seen require grinding to 9999 and resetting the character multiple times.

Because every game is identical, the story can be funny but isn't actually important, and none of the systems depth matters because you can clear the game effortlessly with the default characters and ignoring all grinding mechanics.

They started going hard on being DLC jews;
Not worth buying their latest titles at all until they release their Complete version that comes with all the DLC and more additional content
All the soulful 2D art and animations are now stuck in a mobile game

Otherwise I don't think the series is doing amazingly well, but its surviving.
