if you get 3 then get a trilogy, since every atelier game is a set of 3, they're not direct sequels to each other but they're set in the same world with recurring characters and a similar theme, the arland series has a somewhat more serious tone, tackling some political stuff, closer to the theme of a traditional jrpg, the dusk series is pretty melancholic and set in a post apocalyptic dying world where people are trying to survive but know that they don't have a lot of time left, the mysterious series is very bubbly slice of life cutesy anime theme, the scale of the stories is like a short dnd campaign, and the secret series (ryza's games) are coming of age stories mostly centering around the personal growth of ryza and her friends, growing up and going through adventures together

Dusk, Arland or Mysterious?

I posted a short summary here >>712719790
I think the general consensus is that mysterious is the easiest to get into, it's very easy to consume, especially if you're into the slice of life moe anime stuff, dusk could be a bit more niche, for people who enjoy melancholic stories and my chemical romance, and arland is probably harder to get into, it has cutesy anime girls but it's like a really oldschool jrpg

Anonymous No.712720763 [Report]
>>712720258
the games are all crafting focused so they're all good for crafting autism, the actual crafting minigame is different in each game but the crafting itself follows the same underlying principle in every game, you find materials with certain traits while checking it's quality, then you make intermediary materials out of them, for example you collect pelts or plant parts, then make them into cloth, and then use that cloth to create an item, like a shirt or something, each item has a set of traits that it could roll, then you collect them until you want an item with a specific trait at a high quality, then turn it into an intermediary item to carry the trait and use the intermediary item to transfer the trait to the completed gear that you want, and you can turn intermediary items into intermediary items, and that's where the complexity of the crafting really comes from in all of the games, on how to pass around traits between different intermediary items so you can transfer the triats to the gear piece that you want, you'll figure out the different minigames in each game after like 15 minutes and you just repeat the same process of tuning bars or moving puzzle pieces around, the actual crafting autism comes in with the traits and intermediary items

Out of all the atelier games I've played the 4th arland game was my favorite in terms of gathering and crafting, but honestly it's highly subjective. The minigames are so vastly different between trilogies (and even within them) that it's hard to tell which one is the best. Just pirate them all to try them out, then buy what you liked the most if you insist on being a paypiggy

Arlandfags are the Resident Evil 4 fags of Atelier. Pretentious fart sniffers that actually hate the entire series and think their super special snowflake game is the exception. Generally the worst fucking people to ask for advice on the series since they aren't really a part of it.

lmao what a stupid fucking strawman to deflect. When the fuck have you EVER seen a Ryzafag say it's the peak of the series? Nobody's that delusional. Ryza's trilogy is so bad it makes the shitty town management spin off look good.

Definitely not Ryza's games. T. played them and they were boring. If you absolutely must buy a game, just get one to try it out and buy more if you like it during the next sale.
>>712719790
>if you get 3 then get a trilogy
The absolute most retarded way to buy if you're brand new to the series. If you don't like the first of a trilogy, you aren't going to like the rest of it. Better to just buy the first of different trilogies for different tones and buy the rest of the ones you liked later on.

Ryza suffers from trying to carry a trilogy with nothing but a character design. They needed to either replace her or significantly age her up in each game. instead we have a trilogy where barely any time passes and barely anything happens since they didn't want to touch her.
Anonymous No.712725209 [Report]
I think a good middle ground for time limits would be the ability to just straight up turn them off in NG+ so you could do one game aiming just for the main objectives to beat the game and then NG+ where you 100% do everything. Being a completionist in the Arland trilogy is actual CBT.

It's really obvious that Ryza being the MC for all 3 games was something they decided upon after the success of the first game cause fucking hell are 2 and 3 such nothing burger games.

Ryza 1 is honestly a better game than 2 cause at least 1 had a nice character arc for the characters. 2 is so dull and meandering that even though it honestly does improve the gameplay I still ended up liking 1 more. Though it's still better than the shit show that was 3.
Anonymous No.712725643 [Report]

Ryza 2 should have had her be 40 years old with some nice saggers
Ryza 3 should have had her turn into a loli for no reason
