In any case, keep sharing the good stuff. Please be considerate and include store page links or at least the name of the game in the post or in filename if you share a webm or picture. It goes a long way!
Nioh 3 mogs your entire fest
>>712722046 (OP)>Did you have fun during this event?I feel like the threads burnt out in record time this event. i still found some games I enjoyed but nothing amazing.
>>712722036I did not enjoy. Any turret section in Ratchet and Clank 3 was better than this entire game focused on one thing. Better feedback, better effects, better sound, better enemy paths. And that game not only pushing 20 years today, but also had turrets as a small section in two or three locations.
nah card games are just annoying bro
>>712722151I think now, in the last day, threads still have acceptable speed. I can actually read and reply to them between demos, they're not blasting by at the speed of light. But yeah, there were nothing too exciting this fest. Or maybe just too much of everything, most of which is garbage and dilutes genuinely good experiences.
>>712722046 (OP)>Did you have fun during this event?Yeah, I only found 6 demos that I will buy(depending on the price) when they release but it was great
>>712722248I agree with you, it's worse than those turret sections. I personally compared it more to Sentinel Girls series and some old flash games with similar premise(defending objective against swarms of enemies) rather than Ratchet and Clank. I feel if they change some stuff, sell it for low price(lol) and maybe add some story then game could success
I too am disappointed
the best demo I played was Terratech Legion and that's just survivors with a fun gimmick
Others that seemed playable were just clones.
Crown of Greed, Majesty clone.
Motemancer, Factorio clone.
Little Rocket lab, Factorio and Animal Crossing clone .
>>712722123Then release the demo on PC you coward

2D bloodbourne; not good
>download some demos
>only play like 6 of them
>>712722509I fell like they should rework the game from the ground up to make it work, for me at least. It's a death from a thousand cuts. There's nothing DEALBREAKINGLY wrong with, I can even live with a 32FPS (lol), but there are too many litlle shitnuggets to annoy, and no strong enough core to forgive it.
>>712722672I'm at 63 demos and I've tried about 59
for sometimes under 1 minute
>>712722668>aislop capsuleskipping this one
>>712722509>I only found 6 demos that I will buy(depending on the price) when they releaselist 'em
Probably gonna be the penultimate thread, so I might just as well post every demo review I've written before.
> Legends of the Round Table
A very tabletop game that is also a very computer game. High production, very comfy, good amounts of whimsy, appropriately dated.
> Mystery of the Malign
An Idol-like I liked. Manages to string together the feel of a 2000s mystery game with "modern" puzzle gameplay. Feels pretty authentic and realistic (at least with handling witnesses) for what it is.
> Mage Tower Massacre
"I can't believe this is not 2005 Newgrounds!", the game. Hotline Miami home invasion score attack with spells casting bullets and lightning instead. Very simple loop that is done very competently. Lots of sounds are lifted from CS 1.6. for some reason, but I can't complain.
> Devil Spire Falls
A procgen Daggerfall-like made by a single newlywed Brazilian with a much more relaxed combat. Muskets, flails, spells, talking about religion with naked brown barbarian women wielding battleaxes to calm them down and make them teach me some survival skills. Doesn't feel like it should work at all, but it does.
> PARKSIDE: DECAYED SOUL MANIPULATION
Probably one of the closest things you can get to the feeling of Deus Ex (2000): higher-than-average tech, low life, night clubs, gang hideouts, police drones, working for techno-Illuminati for a living. Good immersive simulation. I think the devs also either made Corprus Edax or are relayed to it somehow.
> PIGFACE
Snuff Simulator 2003, great melee + ranged combat. A bit of Hotline Miami and Hitman in there as well. Isn't ambitious, but does its job perfectly.
> Demonic Mahjong
Absurdly high production for a Balatro-like. "Mahjong with extra stuff" isn't exactly new already, but the sheer amount of effort put into it is pretty fascinating. WARNING: High quality gamblecore, may lose you for an hour in the blink of an eye.
>>712722781You lost me
That's not the dev or publisher name and there's no mention of Ai anywhere on the page
>>712722795> Legacy of the FallenA VN/RPG that answers questions such as "what if your mom was a party member?", "what if your mom was a divine being?" and "what if your mom watched you suck some fat priest titties?". Very fucking bad mechanically, but turns endearing once you get through.
> Touhou: Dreams of a SunflowerArmored Core 6-like/Souls-like/Sekiro-like bullet hell. Generic environments, but a lot of SOUL put into the other parts.
> The Gatekeeper of Scarlet's MansionTouhou tower defense bullet hell game mixed with complicated fairy bowling mechanics. Better try than be told.
> Distant Flux: System InitializingA text-only RPG/simulator that prides itself on the world not caring about you and going through with their own things. Takes about 20 minutes to even understand what is happening.
> The Czar is Dead 2An RPG/Shooter made by an underground Russian hip-hop artist where you go after your son as the last emperor of Russia. Reads like an ironic statement made by a clearly mentally unwell person. Captures the feeling of playing a game in a bad dream perfectly.
> City of VoicesThe Idol-like I didn't like. It's both too pixelated and unanimated enough to make looking at it a chore, which is a cardinal sin for this subgenre. Others have been fairly positive about it, though, so you may like it more.
> L8R SK8RAn Australian millenial skating platformer with millenial dialogue that doesn't get too annoying. Can be pretty fun, but also incredibly frustrating if you're not laser-precise with your controls. If you want a less stressful platformer, try Bloodthief instead. It just works most of the time.
> Meat EngineA DUSK-like where you're Scornguy's distant brother instigating S C O R N across very spacious arenas. The artstyle and world design is gorgeous, but the dev has to seriously up his game in other areas if he wants the game to become popular.
>>712722908> Burnin' Rubber 6A racing game with guns that mostly plays like shit. You'd be better off playing any other game out there.
> MythscrollA text-only RPG that is just not interesting at all.
> Twilight Parade: Moonlit MononokeA 5/10 bullet hell game. You've played them all already, but this one is also not good.
> ACE OverheatSomeone figuring out Luftrausers on their own and slapping a Brotato formula on it. Not really worth playing when Luftrausers exists.
> Heroes UnhingedMelee-based Crimsonland that could have some potential if it had more effort put into it. Somewhat, lukewarmly fun.
> CleaveQuake if it was shit.
> Darkenstein 3DWolfenstein (2009) if it was shit.
> SamsaraA Dharmic soulslike with some pretty interesting ideas (exchanging health for damage at any time and vice versa) but it doesn't feel like the devs have enough experience to do the things they were set out to do.
> Super 10 PinBowling reimagined as a 3D platformer/golfing with manual aim. Says you can control the ball only to drop the ball on controlling it when you're near striking. Has a 30 FPS lock on start for some reason. Not really interesting IMO.
TEXNOPLAZM
An attempt to bring melee first person games like Condemned into the modern paradigm that somehow warps itself into a first person Arkham Batman game instead. There's a good game somewhere in there, but it's hard to find.
> Tales of Legendary Lust: AphrodisiaPlatonic ideal of a WEG. 25 minutes of the most dick-drying prose ever conceived by a man. May singlehandedly make you think "alright, maybe these insane people complaining about men writing about women have some good points". Came to this out of pity.
> My Demon FamilyA WEG that is actually competent. Generic as all shit, but at least gets the job done.
> TankiroShould be much more fun than it actually is. Don't even try this, it's shit.
> Lighthouse of the SoulsWhat if you combined Soulslike combat and Survivors gameplay loop and it was shit?
>>712722795>Snuff Simulator 2003, great melee + ranged combat. A bit of Hotline Miami and Hitman in there as well. Isn't ambitious, but does its job perfectly.Very misleading.
Its not a snuff simulator; you're just doing missions for some guy. He's not recording it. Its nothing like hitman. You just shoot things. You can only carry 1 melee, 1 gun and 1 healing item. There are no stealth mechanics. Enemies just all aggro and zone in on you at once the moment 1 gun shot is fired and half of them have gfuns.
Its nothing like Hotline either. You can take a lot of hits and you regen hp. You get a mask right at the start to regen to max. At any point you're in danger, you can just go around a corner and shoot anyone walking around until they stop and heal to max.
Its literally the exact opposite of every game you compared it to.
How does someones mind get this bad? Genuinely confusing.
Its a very basic FPS with a grimy presentation. Very, very basic FPS. There are like 2 enemy types and you just shoot everything.
I don't know what the fuck you're talking about with the great melee or ranged combat either. You just press M1. That's it. Its completely average.
I think Ninja Gaiden Ragebound SUCKS
>>712722692Yeah, they probably won't because I feel like they think fanservice is enough to carry their game

>>712723013> Word PlayA very pleasant Wordle/Balatro mix. Could use a much wider dictionary.
> !mrakA tactical shooter set in 2003 Russian-occupied Hokkaido. Surprisingly pleasant on the eyes. Pretty cohesive despite having a lot of store-bought assets.
> Ninja Gaiden RageboundPretty fun, but a lot of design is set around "hit this guy -> get super punch -> hit the bigger guy" and IDK how much of it will stay pleasant in the full game.
>>712723024Diegetic arsenal choices like in Silent Assassin and Blood Money, picking jobs from your laptop, grungy ass apartment as a base, masks having an effect on gameplay mechanics, focus on smaller replayable environments that can be approached in multiple ways.
IDK, it's fun tho.
>>712723189>Musical game>The song in the trailer is badlol
>>712723521Ah yes, my diagetic choice between
>Gun >Gun>Other gun>and the other gunAnd 15 variations of 'melee not worth using when guns have so much ammo, which all function the same'

>>712723587I'm sorry PIGFACE killed your dog or whatever, mate. I just liked it.
Recommend me demos to play /v/
Mostly interested in horror, mystery, fun games
>PIGFACE
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3341650/
Mission-based shooter, gives off Manhunt vibes. Aiming is a little weird, melee is cool.
>Ninja GAY-den Rageblind

I don't like any 'vania that REQUIRES hitting enemies to platform. And this one even adds an extra step with spirit of some shit.
>Ratatan

Roguelite Patapon. Cute as heck, pretty fun, but I'm bad at rhythm games. Still, managed to beat the crab and that was enough for me. Maybe I'll pick it up.
>Under The Island
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1583520/
2D Zeld, but you're cute girl and hit shit with a hockey stick. I bet devs are canucks. Pretty good, but the "boss" filtered me. Too many onyos.
>BRUTAL JOHN 2
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1859620/
3D Douk3D. An honest boomer shooter with actual level design and you can carry the whole arsenal with you, unlike those arena shits with rock-paper-scissors gameplay that passes for a boomer shooter these days. Also nice humor.
>Holstin
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2235430/
Resident Hills with pixel sprite graphics. Much demo than the previous one. But fuck flying mimics and I say dodge is a tad expensive. Still, I'm sold.
>SSR Wives

>>712723874>germansthe canucks of Europe

>Ragebound

I'd rather just play Simon Says; it unironically has more variety
>Yokai arts 2
Plants V Zombies with no sunflower so you just spend more time doing nothing
>Brutal John
Why does every encounter have 1 or more pods spawning infinite enemies I have to instantly rush? That's not fun
>PigguFace
I just shot everything to death with absolutely no issue at all with my entire 1 single gun I can carry v its like 1 type of enemy
>OhBugger
FPS with no ammo gauge how do you fuck this up
>MindVasion
Boring survivor clone where you have troops you can possess but how they spawn is never actually explained and they're all fucking boring
>Realm

>Proxy adventure

>Superhero sim

>MetelEden

>OddCore

>Saloonery

>High Fructose
I love fighting invincible enemies in a game where killing specific enemies is the basis for all variety
>Don't Die, Collect Loot Demo
Why does the first boss take like 10 fucking minutes to die
>Morbid Metal
insanely repetitive
>Dog Witch
Nothing is explained and the first boss 1 shots my entire party sans me every turn
>VoidBreaker
Destroying ceilings in default unity assets is boring
>Moros protocol
Samey maps, boring enemies, only brought up by coomers
>Absolum
Unbirthing into XXXXY is boring; 90% of upgrades are just passives, you fundamentally never really change how you play even if you switch character
>Eden Warrior
Soulkino, but also barely seems to function
>Samsara
Runs like ass, boring maps
>Vampiress
Enemies can exit hitstun at will and kill in 3 hits lol
>>712723695>>712724026I actually liked Pigface.
The issue here is his extremely misleading descrioption.
Its just a very basic shooter with literally 2 types of enemies and regenerating hp and he's comparing it to a game with a ton of variety in playstyles and a game where you die in 1 hit.
Its insanely misleading.
>there are over 10000 people watching a livestream of digital market simulator according to steam
Post your state of Next Fest
What is the current state of your wishlist additions?
People complained a lot but I ended up stacking a haul as big as last time.
From what I played, there are only 4 I'd consider buying when they come out
Mecha Simultactics
Okko The Exiled
Blood Thief
Abyssus
>>712724437can you copypaste the title of the chinese spooky game?
I played this Jump Ship demo with 3 others and it was a lot of fun
Clearly they took a leaf out of DRG
I haven't played very much this week because demos bum me out when they end but I was compelled to play a few by friends
>Ball X Pit
Decent potential as a vampire survivor type clone I guess, I like the idea of the fusion system. I feel like this would be better on a phone than on PC
>Ratatan
Charm is the only thing it has. Gameplay is just poorly designed from top to bottom but I question if the devs have enough time to fix it. It's big issue is the lack of commitment to a direction that the gameplay should be going in, because right now its just a bunch of poorly executed ideas stapled together.
>Hell is Us
western developers make a souls-like that doesn't have janky combat challenge (LEVEL: IMPOSSIBLE). What little of the writing there was felt a bit questionable so I'm not optimistic but the aesthetic is pretty cool. Might buy it if it reviews well.
>Hotel Barcelona
Only one I played of my own volition and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. I haven't had much faith in Swery in the last few years and I had a feeling he was getting senile or something but this really cemented it for me. This just felt like a really shitty janky Dead Cells and I don't even like Dead Cells (though I respect it)

>>712724437i haven't gotten around to much because i have only been home since yesterday.
but i am really liking dice gambit.
Kinda has you manage your party members similar to darkest dungeon in that their state is preserved between expeditions and may have to sit one out to manage stamina/HP but they are your bloodline so you expand them by marrying and having kids.
combat is turn based and placed on a hexagonal grid but your potential actions you can take is determined by your dice.
Only hope the time limit is a demo thing because fuck torpedoing my save into an unwinnable situation in a game like this.
ok I downloaded a bunch that are sitting on my desktop and I'll see which ones get removed, goodnight vee
>>712724723It's a shame that it sucks if you try playing it alone on any difficulty higher than 2. It's almost impossible in some circumstances because you absolutely need someone protecting the ship while another does the on-foot objective due to endless spawning enemy ships.
I wonder if the full game will facilitate something like stealth systems or a unique smaller ship type that would be more ideal for a single pilot laying low and not having to suffer endless battles of attrition.
>>712724881I didn't include it in my wishlist crop image, because it launched a demo like 2 months before this NF.
Also had fun.
>>712722046 (OP)Next Fest is still peak /v/

Bloodgrounds- Gladiator game with combat similar to South Park FBW and hamlet management similar to Darkest Dungeon

>>712720383I have mod that removes demo blockers
>>712725028Thatโs a shame; you canโt get your little Reddit-bot to pilot the ship?
>>712724318I think for a lot of people (myself included initially) it has a (sorry) vibe of Hotline Miami with all the calls, animal masks, ULTRAVIOLENCE (there's blood and gibs in the game, can't have much of that these days), so they compare them. Not based on gameplay -- I think if they add a timer, it can be closer to The Club (if anyone remembers that). Where does Hitman comparison come from, I'm not entirely sure. Maybe because you have a (presumably) list of jobs, a secured compound, a list of objectives? For me, demo level reminded more of a Payday 2 Cook Off job -- get in, clear the compound, get the drugs, get out.
I hope devs have a couple of aces in their sleeves to spice up the gameplay, because for now you can get a silenced sniper rifle after two farm jobs and the game is basically solved. Although I did have an intrinsic incentive to complete that level over and over with different weapons including a sledgehammer -- because I had fun doing so. So even if the full game is just 10-15 more levels of that, I would be fine with that.
Goddamn I write like a faggot with all the parenthesis.

Unfortunately, the dev seemed to have taken the playtest down after a few days, either because the few people who bothered to post in Discussions were complaining about being unable to find matches (mostly people not on the NA server) and not actually discussing the playtest for what it was, or there was simply nobody left in a multiplayer-only test and he pulled the plug.
I put in about a dozen matches over the first two days before it seemed everyone fucked off. Looked like I and two other people even knew there was double jumping and sliding. Everyone else was trying to play it like CS and barely got out of spawn before I was already jumping on them.

>>712732963Noted. Selling anything on Android is borderline hopeless, so most devs decide to either run ads, or go exclusive with Netflix or Crunchyroll.

And then I got filtered completely on level 6 or 7 in chapter 1 (past the tutorial). Really cool game, but I guess I'm just too dumb for puzzles.

Since the fest is almost over, here are some demos released recently that I thought they would be in NextFest:
A weird fixed camera shooter. Kinda rough but it worked for me, needs polishing. Luckily you can skip fast the obvious AI voice acting. You may want to select a higher difficulty since normal is too easy.

1st person beat em up. Quite simplistic but fun.
Puzzle platformer where you can "forget" how the world works to progress. Has a charming Flash / browser feel.
>>712736397I don't think i had ever read a manga/hua/wa where the protagonist had less personality than its necromancy summons, then I read solo leveling
>>712732253Break Shot Hero actually feels more inspired.
But at the same time I'm unsure about its long term gamelloop plan.
They are essentially using the Angry Birds style of level competition.
People complain about roguelite elements A LOT but they are perfect for little games like this.
>>712736471I made the girl, that's my character, there are other hot chicks too

>>712737167Actually I did read that partiially but left after the lizard civil war arc, I don't really remember much personality from the things mc summoned, but the surrounding cast did definitely have more personality than him
Really liked Slyders. Despite what anon in a previous thread said, if I got good upgrades it doesn't turn into Serious Sam -- hold S+RMB and pray -- but rather allows me to aggressively push crowds of mobs. It looks good, it plays good and rewards you for doing at least decently. Style reminds me of Roboquest, not an insult.
>>712733345Oh yeah. If you take a look at digital board games, just a couple of years ago 90% of the them were available only on ipads. Don't forget to apply goldberg cracks where applicable and make backup of your favorite demos/games before they get taken down, get deleted by steam automatically or refuse to work for some unknown reason. This always happened to me after the next fest ended so I started pirating demos.
>>712738321Roughly 10% will right at the end of the fest
Around 40% in the next week
Those that surevive two weeks (40% give or take, tho it was almost 80% for me last fest) usually stay until release

I actually wish mobile gaming had a piracy 'problem' because then people would stop playing adware, and start playing quality games while making them more popular in the process. A lot of pirates do become paying customers and I think piracy is a big reason why PC gaming even caught on worldwide.
>>712738321Faggot devs who were born mid 00s think that "Demo" doesn't mean "Demonstration", they think it translates to "Advertisement for Nextfest". >>712739484You can literally "demo" any game though. just refund before the 2-hour mark. Next Fest is, as it says, a demo event for upcoming games, which are usually in early development. >>712739838>a demo event for upcoming games, which are usually in early development.no you dumbfuck a demo is meant to be for games that are near completion and some may even be entirely feature-complete, with just some polish remaining before the release date.
If your demo doesn't represent the final product, then you didn't make a demo at all. You made an alpha or beta preview build. The most generous that you could name it is an indev build if your demo is literally just "here is literally everything that we've done pls pay us to make the rest :^)" that you see with kickstarter and early access games

Turns out I was sleeping on Rushing Beat X. It looks like Unity jank (and it is) but it's the most combo autism beat-em-up I've ever played. I love all the shit you can do. It's like one of those jank fighting games that let you chain whatever into whatever. You can almost see this on an arcade machine in a random chinese laundromat, like some 90's game you never heard of.
It probably gets annoyingly cheap and hard later but the first level is super fun. Will definitely buy if priced decently.
>>712747214I'm a wee bummed nobody cared about Hinters Inc the few times I posted it. I liekd it.

>>712747663>it's the most combo autism beat-em-up I've ever played. I love all the shit you can doYou really need to elaborate on that, because all I've found is a single combo you can do by simply holding the button, a launcher, and an aerial combo where you also just hold the button. Rinse and repeat, occasionally throw a guy into the wall or pop your rage super if you're getting too bored.
>>712745506Everything you said plus the fights just drag on too long. It was fun for a few minutes though.
>>712746896>>712747214An alternative to Jump Ship would be Wildgate. Both have the same kind of 4-player-team running a spaceship and jetpacking outside to do objectives and swipe loot.
The former is coop with randomized zones, while the latter is more intended for ship-v-ship versus multiplayer (but not necessary?).
Jump Ship also has a mellow serious tone to it, while Wildgate has more typical quippy upbeat colorfulness.
>>712747959Direction + Y or B gives you different moves. I'm playing the brown girl and you can go for a dive kick mid air or an air forward moving kick after a launcher. you can also cancel the auto combo to do any of your other moves as well. There's also double jump to continue your combo. You need to be more creative instead of just holding B.

>>712744943I was, perhaps it's not a good idea to default to windowed AND have a pixelation filter on top of that
My takeaway as an aspiring dev:
You need decent graphics or nobody will even look at your game, pixel art is OK but it has to be polished.
Cute girls help a lot because most next fest browsers are guys
Girls who are overtly sexualized hurt because it limits its appeal to women
People love non-furry anthropomorphic animals
Randomization mechanics are still the most popular as tired as people here are of them.
>>712748732>You need to be more creative instead of just holding B.The game really never gave me any incentive to. You've convinced me to give it another go tomorrow if the demo doesn't go down.

I'm hoping there's a way to optimize stuff so that certain combinations lead to more damage over just standard auto+launcher but that might be asking too much.
>>712749001>appeal to womenwho cares
>>712749001>Randomization mechanics are still the most popular as tired as people here are of them.I think they're particularly popular for demos since you can get a relatively large amount of playtime out of little actual content.
If you only end up playing a 30 minute level I think most people pretty much instantly forget it and move onto the next one.
>>712749001>You need decent graphics or nobody will even look at your gameYou need a coherent artstyle, not graphics. PS1/N64 themed shit is popular now but if your game is just butt ugly like hark the ghoul you have no chance even if you swap to ultra realistic graphics
>it limits its appeal to womenWhich doesn't matter because of your previous point. Women don't play videogames outside of very specific types of them. What you should consider instead is that delusional coombrains are just as much of a minority as women
>non-furry anthropomorphic animalsPeople are okay with furry characters if they are not butt ugly or oversexualised. See nine sols, pseudoregalia, laika for examples
>Randomization mechanics are still the most popularYou have to build your game around randomisation or you will get a crippled game of the original type

Kaizen Factory Story is good if you like Zachtorinics stuff. The demo is really basic though, just the tutorial essentially
>>712749001>Girls who are overtly sexualized hurt because it limits its appeal to womenPartially correct. Women love "overly" sexy characters as long as their outfits don't make them look like clowns or trash hookers. Give them stylish yet simple, striking outfits with proper sex appeal that won't be get someone in trouble if they were out in public wearing it, and those characters may be getting some cosplayers.
>Randomization mechanics The issue is leaving entire aspects of the game to procgen, especially environments and equipment. Hand-crafted environments (with randomization limited to overall layout, side rooms and interim locations) and unique tools with unique functions (with random modifiers) to play with will blow out pure Diabloot and stitching a bunch of no-effort copypaste squares together.

If your unrealslop looks like an asset flip without a coherent style - no matter how far you crank up the shaders, it will look like sludge.
>Cute girls help a lot because most next fest browsers are guysSame as with the artstyle, the girls should look distinctly appealing rather than simply conventionally attractive.
>Girls who are overtly sexualized hurt because it limits its appeal to womenYou added this as bait to manufacture engagement with your post. I'll reply in good faith anyway because I'm a fucking idiot.
Sexualization is tricky. Once again it has to be stylish. If you just slap a microbikini on a whore with a fat ass and giant tits - you'll be seen as "yet another one". Sexualization that looks intriguing can help. Project Turboblast and Atlyss are games with peculiar yet completely shameless sexualization that turned heads and created more hype than backlash with their saucyness.
>People love non-furry anthropomorphic animalsThe fuck does that even mean?
>Randomization mechanics are still the most popular as tired as people here are of them.Popular among DEVS, because they're simpler to implement than actual game design with thought out levels and power ups and whatnot.

Fairly generic city builder with nothing particularly interesting to it, but it's been one of the more talked about games in these threads because it looks beautiful and distinct.
>>712750814Just imagine a human woman in that outift. It's a very sexual design. You chose a terrible example for that one.
>>712751321Pants option is canon
I have no freakin' idea on how to solve the puzzle on Always With You. The drawings on the walls tell me nothing other than that blocks are supposed to be pushed and those wooden poles are supposed to be positioned in the right manner. What confuses me the most is the wall that shows a sun, half circle, and square. What the fudge is that supposed to mean?
>>712751321>Just imagine a human woman in that outfit. It's a very sexual design
>>712751321>just imagine a human womanthat doesn't exactly work when it comes to anthro characters.
characters like mickey mouse and donald duck are half naked but it doesn't LOOK sexual because there are no distinctly sexualized features. Cartoon animals can get away with being naked by human dress standards because their fur/feathers/whatever IS effectively their clothing.
>>712751258https://store.steampowered.com/app/1150530/Wizard_with_a_Gun/
This one is downright generic garbage and look at thise 2.5k Very Positive. No other reason than those expensive cartoon trailers with good quality music. Granted, the dev studio imploded anyway because they're a massive gaggle of overpaid lefties with bullshit jobs, but the point stands - this might as well be considered successful for how little it offers to the player. And the game itself doesn't even look nice, it's all in the trailers.
>>712751564>characters like mickey mouse and donald duck are half naked but it doesn't LOOK sexualWell she's not shaped like mickey mouse or donald duck, is she? She's shaped very much like a human woman in those parts.

My problem is that I have found way too many demos I like. The backlog will just keep on growing and growing.
Best highlights were: Orbyss, Hirogami (similar to Okami but with origami forms), Holstin, Tamashika (like Post Void but better), UVSU, Rue Valley (in a Disco Elysium style with a time loop), Ooo, Dead as Disco.
Others that were pretty fun: Morbid Metal, Tormented Souls 2, Kaizen: Factory Story.
Two demos left in my backlog, but I think I'm done for today. If they aren't gone tomorrow (or I set up goldberg for them), I'll try them. If not -- no biggie. I know Parkside is good, and I like Corpus Edax, but I'm just not feeling it anymore today.
My takeaways:
Buy on release:
Slyders -- roguelite FPS, yeah-yeah, I know, but I enjoyed it as much as I did Roboquest. To anon who claimed it becomes "Serious Sam-like" with S+LMB -- you just suck. After a couple of first levels I'm rushing until every single fucker is dead.
Pigface -- I like Hotline Miami vibes and the idea of speedrunning individual levels. Reminds me of The Club which I never got to experience fully because of how bad the PC port was.
Buy on sale:
Hark the Ghoul & Verho -- new strange breed of souls inspired first-person RPGs. They might not be the greatest games out there, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet, so I want to jump on it before the definitive game comes out.
Inventorix -- I think those are called balatro-like now? Building crazy combos to beat an arbitrary score goal, but instead of cards it's inventory management. I liked Backpack Hero, so it's right up my alley. Also don't even try Backpack Hero on switch, controls are so butchered it's not even funny.
Under the Island -- I'm now regretting selling my deck earlier this year, would be a perfect game for that. It's a Link to the Past clone, you know how it goes. My only complaint is that the music is not good. Very generic, sounds like royalty free shit.
After Inc Revival -- a city builder that I hope just comes out on mobile so I can play it on the tablet laying in bed. Reminds me of Townsmen and damn I miss that series.
>>712754764(dis)Honorary mentions:
Necro Siege is the worst game I tried this fest. It's COD Zombies, but everything is bad. The worst gun feedback and sound I ever encountered, dips down to 4 (FOUR) FPS on 7900XTX, generic assets and absolutely hilarious EULA. Highly recommend reading it for a good laugh -- and keep in mind what kind of game it is attached to.
Generation Exile -- It opens with a thousand words scroll, and then immediately proceeds to bombard you with a "millennial writing" in the worst way possible. While running like shit. And it is turn-based for some reason.
>>712754764>Hark the Ghoul & Verho -- new strange breed of souls inspired first-person RPGsThey're technically King's Field inspired. Hell, Verho doesn't even have the "die but save progress and get your souls back later," you straight up get booted to your previous save.
>>712755153Oh, that would make sense. I just never played King's Field, so never made that connection. Thanks, that's good to know -- maybe I'll check out the King's Field too at some point.

Paris Transylvania was actually sort of fun, despite what the Peggle purists were saying in the reviews.
Just don't choose Marie. The frog is OP at the beginning. The boss fight was kinda fun. I will say that the physics of the ball are a bit wonky (artificial acceleration when a ball enters a ramp, for instance) but I got used to it pretty quick. Though I do see that you can adjust these things in the settings (Bounce & Ramps, but I don't know why they let you change this at all, honestly)
After you beat the boss, they replay the map but at higher difficulty. I looped the map until it circled back to "world 1" again. Makizushi, toaster, and gemstone are the balls to look for.

>>712765158Yep, a real standout for me. I can already see myself sinking hours into it which is why I quit the demo early. Doesn't seem to have much traction though. Maybe the classic FF1 graphics were a bad call since only super autists care about that style.
>>712766650>Though I do see that you can adjust these things in the settings (Bounce & Ramps, but I don't know why they let you change this at all, honestly)Upon looking at my own screenshot, I see that this is actually just adjusting the calculation of ramps and bounces, not the speed. >>712770032And I forgot my image
>>712763426I mostly agree. I'll still pick it up when it's on sale, but I do have some worries. I'm fine with the gameplay, but I agree with the other anon that it can get a bit too busy and hard to read. and yeah, the story is needlessly obtuse, and part of me we worries that that's intentional, to try and make you feel as disjointed as the protagonist does. because of course the story is actually about depression
Two demos I tried:
>Word Play
It's ok, but I'd only buy the full release if it was like $5.
Basically, you have 16 random letters, and you have to make the longest word you can with them. As you use letters, new random ones get added in, and you can shuffle everything a limited number of times.
Each letter also has a value, with "rarer" letters having more score. You also get modifiers after each stage that can boost your score in a bunch of ways.
It's simply ok, fun enough for a word game, but I feel like the modifiers weren't cool enough. The game promises more and cooler modifiers on the full release, and it does have a cool feature of adding community-voted words (stuff like coom and spaz work), but eh.
>Magical Girl Escape
An escape room with a cute girl theme, not sure what part of it is Magical Girls aside from maybe the aesthetic of the girls. The demo is unbelievably short for some reason, I solved one puzzle and that was it. Has light gore death CGs if you fail which I don't really care for but I guess you have to do it since it's mahou shoujos. Demo was kinda trash and it lacks a ton of QoL like speeding up text or skipping it altogether. Will probably not take a second look on it, but the puzzles did seem to be interesting.

I also wonder what the race of the developers is, because those locations and that music reeks of "white college girls who are 0.05% mexican trying to represent their latinx roots".

That means, more than one! And if you have a harem of women, you know, sometimes they have sex with eachother too, or something.
I'm working it out.
I'm gonna shill a game that I played like 2 fests ago that I really liked, it's Aethermancer.
It's a roguelite RPG where you collect monsters and use them for battle. The monsters have a lot of different builds they can grow into, and you can develop a ton of different synergies between them which is really cool. The game uses a mana system for attacks, and you can get mana by the default collection from your monsters at the start of each turn, from doing basic attacks, and from using some special skills or getting specific equipment.
Really, really fun game, the demo has a lot to play since you can just go back in the runs and play with different monsters. The graphics are also pretty charming and the animations are great. Will definitely buy day 1.

I tried a pretty cool horror game called Caput Mortum. Has pretty strange controls (on controller, you turn with LT/RT and look up and down with LB/RB) with your hand being controlled with the right stick.
Honestly I would have prefered if the game was more like Myst and have it be a mostly entity free puzzle game, but I get people prefer a bit of spooks.

>Dead as Disco
First game I tried of the fest and definitely my favorite. Similar to hifi rush's beat em up synced to music, but this one lets you import your own music which lets you do a lot of fun stuff. Even now, a few days later, I keep opening it up to try out more songs. Full game seems to promise a much more in-depth editor which I look forward to. Wishlisted. P.S. Try Train Roll, it works strangely well: https://files.catbox.moe/iytxtg.mp4
>Zakon
somehow couldn't get past drifting around the statue. Might try again later.
>mecha simultactics
Love yomi so a mecha version of that sounded right up my alley. The isometric style and destructive environment is great, but the controls feel clunky. Rather than just having all your moves onscreen you need to constantly go in and out of menus to get to your move/attack/special movelists. Still wishlisted, I'll keep an eye and pray they improve it.

cute resource management game and I enjoy birds. I believe this has some tie to some educational youtuber but I've never watched his content. Camera control over asteroids is a little weird at times.

Ordinary action games are the evolution of arcades.
Roguelikes evolved into "progression" gambling where you're forced to lose through sheer random chance because you were given shit powerups and your permanent upgrades weren't enough to brute force through the bad luck.
will you get Possessors if it looks like this
>>712783762>>712783356Do not buy Rainworld for 25 dollars. Wait for it to hit a sale. It's good at what it does, but it doesn't do a whole lot, so your mileage will drastically vary depending on what you like. And don't buy the DLCs either.
>Yoram - Question Arc
An interesting visual novel borrowing something similar to Your Turn To Die's debate mechanic, with a background system of being able to raise affinity with certain characters (which doesn't tangibly come into play in the demo).
The standout story element is that you yourself are the murderer (though the demo ending indicates things won't remain so simple).
Steam description says the demo is 85% of chapter 1 of a 3 chapter story. Interestingly, the "about this demo" steam tab partially spoils what happens after the demo's ending.
There were very minor translation issues and the occasional bug. Art looks nice and I'll definitely be purchasing it once released.
