I feel like nintendo was Mario Kart to be this casual game for families to mess around with but ever since MKWorld came out I keep seeing videos from autists explaining that the game is ass because skill doesn't matter and yada yada... which I guess many of those criticisms are quite valid and the game design does seem annoying if you care enough to see it, but Nintendo probably doesn't even given a fuck about that, same way they didn't give a fuck about Mario Odyssey being a mindless collecta thon with no worthwhile challenges, they know normies just like to see Mario jump on the screen and that's what they will give.

From online stuff I've seen for world so far, characters/karts have different actual stats despite showing the same stats on the selection screen. Speed is the only confirmed thing so far but people also noticed that different characters have different speeds based on the type of track they are driving on. Also with unique stats, you can have different playstyles with combos that are better at said playstyles.

I just find it funny more than anything since stats overall have been made so homogenized in Mario Kart World that as long as you pick something that has a decent speed/acceleration combo, it should still be pretty good for online. This isn't Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where you had to have an excellent mini-turbo stat (that you'd have no way of knowing you did or didn't have on the kart selection screen by the way) or you were almost never going to do well online, hence why everyone used Yoshi/Teddy Buggy or some variant of it. I'm currently at around 8700 VR and I switch between Peach and Rosalina on the Mack Rocket. Even though most lobbies at that point hivemind to the Baby Blooper, I can consistently make top third and even score some first place finishes despite playing at a """disadvantage""" according to a meta that isn't even two weeks old. Good item management, knowing when to take alternate paths, and knowing how to take alternate paths are far more important than they've ever been and I really don't think specific character/kart combos are going to realistically matter in this game outside of Time Trials.
