You might want to look into real RPGs. They usually have decisions/routes that deal with these circumstances.
For the sake of conversation though, I'll give you an example: Infamous 2. Both endings, depending on your perspective.

Goes even farther than that. While it's not really expanded on, there is some dialogue suggesting Barret starts to understand Shinra, or at least the motivation behind Midgar. Also his entire subplot is wrapped in narcissism, as his motivations are revealed to be laced in falsehood and motivated by his own failures rather than any real understanding of The Planet or Shinra's affect on it. He's basically using his misunderstanding of mako as an excuse to act violent.
Very progressive for the Japs to accurately portray Africans. Still, I do like Barret. I kinda wish his story was more the focus and it developed more. Fuck the shizophrenic twink anime swordsman ancient evil magic bullshit.

Throughout both games you learn that the power that the world fears is actually what holds it together and that it's been sealed for a millenia, so you go against the grain to release it in the sequel. Controversial, extremely dangerous, but ultimately good.
