Correct me if Im wrong but this is basically just the original game with a bunch of graphical mods slapped on top. How the fuck did it take them so long to make and why are they asking so much money for it? Quake 2 remaster had an entire new expansion, included cut content that did not make it into the original game, and it was free.
No it isn't, it's honestly closer to a remake than remaster.

Whenever companies re-release a game that was made before and charges you full price for it, I always consider it a jewish humiliation ritual.
Been playing the game since it came out. Some thoughts:
>Environment looks better overall because of the higher quality textures. However, a lot of their work was already done by the SHTUP mod which they have integrated into the game
>Enemy animations and your own melee animations look almost like a match to the original (or Thief TDP from whence most originated)
>Lighting isn't a match. It's very much on an area by area basis
>Sound, voices and music also seem to be a match. No information about EAX though
>Nice to have weapon reload animations. New weapon models look alright and even have additional effect like blood on the wrench
>Character models definitely look worse. Even Nightdive acknowledged they couldn't get the look right compared to early 3D rendering. I do like that the maintenance bots have lights on them now and protocol droids degrade as they're shot
>New inventory icons also look worse because they appear cartoonish. A few text fonts are different too
>Audio logs seem to have upscaled portraits. These definitely look worse. XERXES also has a silly appearance though I believe it's from a mod
>Blood is improved but the resolution on it still appears low
>Main menu looks pretty much identical other than a font change to the words "System Shock 2"
>Multiplayer looks a little laggy. It looks at though voice chat has been built into it. No idea how cross platform performs
>Cutscenes also seem to have been improved. They look completely redone
>Consoles versions display a constant contextual help menu when interacting
>Screens, cameras, lights and other electronics emit an additional glowing effect
>Price for the remaster is beyond ludicrous. Completely unjustifiable when the original works well on modern PCs at a much lower price and you can just install some mods to improve graphical quality
It took them longer to make because they didn't have the source code and reverse engineered it to put on their own KEX engine.

>>712746535>2.5D FPRPG with guns plays nothing like 2.5D FPShow is this place so full of nigger-tier retards
There's different "immersiveness" when you play the original. It has to do with how the game renders perspective, and sprites/pixels having different weight/depth to them, than the 3d models they made for the remaster
Basically, I think big thing of "immersion simulator" like Amulets & Armor (GOAT) and SS1 is not the FOV, but how the engine renders things, how the engine renders the perspective etc.. It's hard to explain because many modern games don't play too much around it, but some old amiga FPS games had very different FOV (almost like vertical FOV) to them, than many of the modern games, and it's not just the wide screen vs square screen , some of the older 3d drew the walls differently than modern 3d engines (modern engines basically are soulless, until someone deepdives and writes it there). Old game engines pretty much always had something going for them, even if it was reused on many games. Can't say the same for modern engines.

>>712731334Studio head said that there is possibility for SS2 remake after remaster. And if I understand correctly they hope to somehow snatch the rights for SS3 from Tencent.
>>712747584Only because you probably haven't played immersive sims enough to know that there's something to them, that regular first person games don't quite capture. I'd say morrowind with its window/UI menu jungle can also qualify as immersive sim , but with oblivion it's "slight departure" from it (still very good game), and in skyrim the immersiveness is completely gone.

BUYING TWO COPIES OF EACH REMASTER NOW
>>712749072Inviso-mutants in the original were just fucking awful but they're at least only found in the maintenance area. It's kind of baffling because they really goes against basic game design. If you're going to put a swarm style enemy in a game, you're supposed to give them relatively low health and damage. The whole idea behind enemies that appear in large groups is that what makes them dangerous but balanced is that their strength lies in numbers. Making them tanky as fuck and their attacks deal a shit ton of damage just goes against common sense.
They're slightly more tolerable in the remake because that appear in smaller numbers and stop spawning once you destroy all the cameras on the floor. The central area with the freighter elevator is also mostly safe as well. They still suck to deal with in their own way in the remake though. Nightdive made their attacks deal biological DoT and they leave behind a cloud of poison gas (which also deals biological DoT) that lingers for a few seconds after they die. Also they're completely invisible until they detect and start attacking you in the remake.

>>712746105>its like the remaster devs didn't like the originalI'm guessing you didn't follow the remake's development at all. After releasing the initial demo and getting proper funding, the project started turning into this quasi-reimagining of the original (because they hired a bunch of devs who clearly didn't like the original) before all the backers shit on the direction the remake were going in. Then the project went silent for a bit, ended up getting rebooted, a bunch of devs were let go, and the remaining team ended up making something that was fairly close to the original compared to other modern remakes, to the point where they made sure a majority of the level design was kept nearly the exact same.
I didn't mind the different take on the original's soundtrack, but I do mind not offering an option to play the original music as a toggle, and the fact that I remember the music itself being weirdly bugged so level tracks would just stop playing for periods at a time, leaving the game unnecessarily quiet.
I don't remember actually liking the VR stuff in the original that much, but I did find it amusing how the remake's version wasn't much better despite trying to do its own thing. Same goes for the final boss, which they even updated *again* at a later point but it still ended up being pretty bad.

A lot of the PSI skills are useless, the hacking minigame sucks and is extremely basic compared to the more puzzle style hacking in the original game and research is practically a joke with how dull it is (you basically just find a chem storage closet, grab the chemicals for whatever it is you want to research, select the research you want, and then just wait until it's done).

>>712746105Jesus fucking Christ the level of retardation this board will stoop to in the name of contrarianism
Did it fix the multiplayer? I don't see a reason to buy it again unless they're fixing huge issues.
>>712779598>Did it fix the multiplayer?yes!
>>712779876Yes but "how"? I know it's supposedly got cross play, cool, but is it just a one button matchmaking thing with zero way to filter anything? Is there a way for a console player to communicate beyond voice chat? Does Multiplayer have mutators or anything you can use for fun? C'mon now how bout a little nore info
>>712780198I dunno, this is the trailer they put out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs6TLEVNYf4
I wouldn't expect deathmatch. actually maybe that could be cool
>>712777340>Which modern games even have lobby browsers? You mean server browsers? I've played quite a few if that's the case. They still exist. As in you can manually enter an IP address to enter a game too. But by and large consolized matchmaking is the new standard.
>>712779515How is he wrong?
>>712731963>rightoid mutts attempt backfiresyou love to see it
>>712749072fake after image

>>712780512you dont get to call people mutts when youre the people who worship blacks and cry about racism 24/7 :y
>>712781771He and sponge being 2 retards, a perfect pair in heaven
I'm just angry that Nightdive lied about there being a VR port for the System Shock 2 remaster, that's the reason i preodered the SS1 remake. But knowing how everyone reacted to a new Thief game in VR on this board: i doubt it's a primary concern to people who play 'imm sims'. I'm likely in the minority who actually care about the false adverting displayed.
>>712730427 (OP)Because people have cried about the grafix for years even though the original game holds up beautifully in every way
>>712782570>Ss2 vrThat would've been terrifying
>>712782570blame zuckerberg
>>712769469You lost though and now you're lashing out like an insecure asian male
>>712783229>youbad news, tranny!
i installed the original but it's annoying to get running optimally so i'll just play remaster
>>712783775>it's annoying to get running optimallyhow so?
>>712783775did you install it from a cd or something? every version you get these days from gog/steam etc uses newdark by default so it just works
>>712731452iirc it was the original version they were giving away for free with the preorder for ss1 remake
>>712783954>>712783878runs at half my refresh rate and with weird stutter idk, i'm too lazy to try fix rn
>>712784014https://steamcommunity.com/app/482400/discussions/0/715612249814745775/
nah it's the new one, enhanced edition is now ss2 remastered?! i found this seems it will just appear at launch
and this says enhanced edition but that must mean what we now call the remastered version, right?

>>712782570As much as I'd have been interested in a good SS2 VR port, I think Thief is a much better fit for it. Not just because of the slow pace and the higher need for dexterity, but also for the fact that it has a ton of FMs to play. VR needs games like that.
>>712782570facebook killed VR in general and SS2 VR specifically
I bought the remaster a couple of years ago and it was the most boring experience of my life.
Thanks for reading my blog.
>>712786293Yeah because it took away the soul from the original. It doesn't have same music, and the atmosphere just isn't there with how out of perspective everything looks.
>>712731724You’re not supposed to play on Hard or Impossible on your first run. On Normal you can experiment without the risk of being softlocked
>>712730427 (OP)This is cool and all but when is the Thief TDP and Thief 2 remasters coming? I ain't buying a VR headset to play Thi5f.
After all this praise you guys have given it all these years while shitting all over the Bioshock franchise it better fucking be good. If the game is shit I am holding you accountable /v/.
>>712788396OG SS is the best, none of these remasters matter. you better go play that fucking og SS1 and Deux Ex 1 wanker
>>712788396>waiting for modern remaster slop instead of playing the god tier originals
>>712747080Its really good in vr wuth UEVR. Almost made for it
Well based on the multiplayer trailer I sure hope if I buy it on launch I can join into some PC players game and just fuck the whole operation up and never say a word.
I'm just kidding I"ll carry hard of course. I'll bring telekinesis and we'll be able to get a whole few extra armor piercing magazines. It's gonna be great.
>>712782570I played their remaster of SS1 in VR. They really dont need to do more, then make it run on the goggles and adjust some UI elements like inv screen.
I guess their original proposal included the motion thingies, which always eats up the majority of dev time
>>712730427 (OP)Besides updated textures, even the models have been upgraded. They did that with Turok 3 and I think Quake 2 where character models were upgraded with not just more polygons and such but gave the models actual functioning hands with individual functioning fingers instead of the old paddle hands like the original N64 version(although there is an option to use the old models as well which is neat).
>>712786203Cuckerborg has stunted its development but is by far not the only root cause. Trying to force motion controls straight out of the gate makes developing vr ports tedious and not really worth it financially
Also vr certainly aint dead and it aint going anywhere. There is a reason the hobbyist scene is thriving, with flatties getting converted left and right. Only a minority of them bother with motion. The HMD themselves are just too good and straight up upgrafe to any monitor, which feels like staring into the gameworld through a tiny little window
>>712731043Having played it recently i can tell you the controls are still really fucked even when remapped. Just getting them to play well with modern systems would be worth the rework.
>>712790807VR is dead if people can seethe about 450 tablet they sure as hell aint gonna buy some VR headset
>>712790807zuck is about to pivot to AR glasses so he can shove ads in front of people's eyes all day long
