I love Quake 1 but the bestiary is its weak spot and is in no way Lovecraftian. The ogres and shamblers are much more body horror than cosmic horror, the knights are inexplicable, and the spawns are literally a joke. Even Shub, the one monster named for Lovecraft's work, is just an unremarkable growth with tendrils.
