as of now there are no announcements for a dlc, but don’t worry anon the game is complete and a blast as it is. and no, cat people are no different than humans as a playable character.

I really liked DD1 and DDON when I played, but something about that timed trial last year for dd2 kinda bothered me, I guess it felt like a downgrade from DDON and a slight step up from DD1, has it been patched to have any improvements or changes to combat or anything?

Yes actually, you don't need to acquire a beast mask in order to cross the border.
